Silverstone introduceert vierdaags GP-weekend

De organisatie van de Britse Grand Prix heeft toestemming gekregen om het traditionele driedaagse schema los te laten en een extra dag aan het evenement vast te plakken. De actie op het circuit van Silverstone begint dit jaar al op donderdag in plaats van op vrijdag.

Niet voor de Formule 1, waarvoor de eerste vrije trainingen gewoon op vrijdag blijven staan, maar wel voor de Formule 2 en de GP3. De enige trainingssessie in die opstapklasses vindt nu op donderdag plaats. De Formule 2 begint om 15.30 uur lokale tijd, de GP3 om 16.45 uur lokale tijd.

Daarnaast krijgen prijswinnaars de kans om door de pitstraat te wandelen, is er de Sky F1 Show op het rechte stuk van start en finish en geeft Travis 's avonds een concert. Fans met een kaartje voor het weekend mogen ook donderdag langs de baan plaatsnemen. Ze hebben alleen geen toegang tot het optreden van Travis, daarvoor dienen ze een apart ticket aan te schaffen.

Journalist Adam Cooper meldt via Twitter dat dit schema een voorbode is voor andere Grands Prix later dit seizoen. Het is de bedoeling dat een vierdaags schema ook in Hongarije, België en Italië en mogelijk bij enkele overzeese races van toepassing is. Het idee erachter is dat het meer ruimte geeft voor ritjes met tweezitters en andere demo's op de baan.

Leuk voor de hotels die een dagje extra meepikken.

Andere reden zou zijn dat de F1 volgend jaar meer tijd vrij maakt voor de vrije trainingen i.p.v. midseason testdagen.
