Ron Dennis: "Mijn 37 jaar bij McLaren is nu een afgesloten hoofdstuk

De afgelopen week werd bekend dat Ron Dennis zijn belang in de McLaren Technology Group zou gaan verkopen. De voormalig directeur van de Britse renstal werd eind 2016 op een zijspoor gezet en opgevolgd door Zak Brown. Was hij eerder nog niet bereikbaar voor commentaar, nu bevestigt Dennis dat hij inderdaad zijn aandelen heeft verkocht.

De 70-jarige Dennis kijkt nog één keer terug op zijn periode van 37 jaar bij McLaren en noemt het 'een hoofdstuk in het boek McLaren'. "Ik wens McLaren alle succes als het verhaal gewoon verder gaat", zo zegt hij. Hij vervolgt: "Nu mijn tijd bij McLaren erop zit kan ik mij bezig gaan houden met nieuwe activiteiten en dan vooral die zich richten op de publieke dienstverlening."

Terugblikkend op zijn tijd bij McLaren zegt hij: "Mijn grootste voldoening is waarschijnlijk een geweldig trackrecord op het gebied van raceveiligheid. En dat is een eerbetoon aan de inspanning van honderden medewerkers die ik het voorrecht heb gehad om te mogen leiden."

Ron Dennis zal zich bezig gaan houden met de liefdadigheidsinstelling van zijn familie: Dreamchasing. Dit project begeleid kinderen en jongeren onder andere financieel om hun dromen werkelijkheid te maken, wat die ook zijn. Lewis Hamilton kreeg deze begeleiding van Ron Dennis sinds zijn twaalfde Formule 1 terecht en werd in 2008 wereldkampioen Formule 1 met McLaren. Hamilton was de inspiratie om Dreamchasing op te zetten.

Hij sluit af met: "Last but far from least wens ik McLaren het allerbeste en bedank ik alle collega's in alle uithoeken van de zaak op ieder level. Zij zijn het beste van het beste."

Nooit heb ik t op Dennis gehad. Je zou zelfs kunnen stellen dat ik het een l*l van een vent vond. Vroegst, zou ik hebben gejuicht als hij zou vertrekken maar met de tijd ben ik hem toch gaan respevteren

Ik ben normaal niet zo'n taalnazi, maar sinds een tijdje zit er echt in elk artikel zo'n bizarre zinsopbouw. Met woorden teveel, te weinig of een verkeerse volgorde waardoor het haast onleesbaar wordt. Als je toch een keer je artikel doorleest voordat je het online zet moet je dat er toch al uit kunnen halen?..
