FOM beschouwt Britse GP als een van de kroonjuwelen

De Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië is een van de hoogtepunten van het Formule 1-seizoen en Liberty Media zal er dan ook alles aan doen om de toekomst van het evenement te waarborgen. Dat liet commercieel directeur Sean Bratches aan Reuters weten. Silverstone-eigenaar BRDC neigt er sterk naar om een ontsnappingsclausule in het contract met de Formule 1 te activeren, waardoor het na 2019 onder de verplichtingen uit kan komen.

Formula One Management heeft nog getracht de British Racing Drivers' Club op andere gedachten te brengen, onder meer met een voorstel om de organisatie van de race op Silverstone voor vijf jaar op zich te nemen en de jaarlijkse verliezen van tussen de 2 en 3 miljoen pond te dekken, maar het mocht niet baten. De BRDC is bang dat de jaarlijks oplopende fee desastreuze gevolgen kan hebben voor het voortbestaan van de vereniging.

Liberty Media beschouwt de Britse Grand Prix echter als een van de kroonjuwelen op de kalender. Bratches: "We hebben een geweldig ambitie voor de sport en zijn vastberaden om de lat hoger te leggen, aangezien fans meer van een raceweekend verwachten. We hebben promotors nodig die dezelfde visie uitdragen. We hebben drie jaar om een oplossing te vinden voor de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië en we zijn optimistisch dat dit gaat lukken."

Hmmmm ... als sommige teams al 100 miljoen incasseren voor "historische waarde" dan zou 2 a 3 miljoen voor een historische locatie toch niet onbespreekbaar moeten zijn. Of zie ik dat weer te simplistisch ?

    Hmmmm ... als sommige teams al 100 miljoen incasseren voor "historische waarde" dan zou 2 a 3 miljoen voor een historische locatie toch niet onbespreekbaar moeten zijn. Of zie ik dat weer te simplistisch ?

      Dat klopt, en als je goed leest dan staat er ook dat de FOM bereid is die paar miljoen te dekken, maar het is de BRDC zelf die dit aanbod niet aanneemt.

    Ik denk dat het grootste probleem is dat hun contract en waarschijnlijk ook van andere circuits de kosten elk jaar stijgen wat natuurlijk onzin is.
    Als ze gewoon alles is wat lager doen en de teams wat meer krijg je meer publiek, meer teams en is het allemaal een stuk beter.

      Wurgcontract getekend met Bernie, maar nog steeds geldig. Logisch dat ze willen ontsnappen en een nieuw contract met FOM/Liberty willen onderhandelen.

    Groot-Brittannië is de bakermat van de f1, een Britse gp hoort altijd op de kalender te blijven, liefst op Silverstone een circuit met traditie. Ondanks dat ze ook hier e.e.a. hebben veranderd door de jaren heen is het nog altijd een fraai circuit.
    Maar goed, ik maak me ook niet écht zorgen over het voortbestaan van die race, storm in een glas water idd.

      absoluut al vind ik persoonlijk Brands Hatch wel het mooiere circuit, liefst zou ik ze zoals vroeger jaarlijks zien wisselen tussen Silverstone en Brands Hatch al vrees ik dat de F1 Brands Hatch niet veilig genoeg meer zal vinden

      Mee eensch, ik vind Brands Hatch nog mooier maar zoals Kurosawa-San aangeeft waarschijnlijk niet veilig genoeg.

    Gezien het zeer redelijke tegenvoorstel van FOM vind ik de opstelling van de BRDC maar vreemd..
    Daarentegen, niet hun eerste rare besluit de laatste tijd.
    Het rommelt daar al jaren met en tussen al die bestuursleden

      Het tegenvoorstel is het verlies dekken. Met andere woorden: nog steeds totaal geen winst maken. Silverstone wil juist naar een contract toe dat winst mogelijk maakt.

    Gewoon slecht management. Ze hebben dat contract toch zelf getekend en zijn dus akkoord gegaan. Silverstone is zeker een machtig mooi circuit met een rijke geschiedenis

      Hebben ze zich door Ecclestone door de strot laten duwen met een soort staffel toeslag erin die het elk jaar duurder maakt. Daar willen ze terecht vanaf. Eerder slim aangepakt vind ik. Ze kennen hun eigen waarde en zagen het vertrek van BE wel aankomen. Nu breken ze het gewoon open.
