F1 Group diep teleurgesteld in timing van Silverstone

Het besluit van de BRDC om de optie in het contract met de Formule 1 te lichten en de Britse Grand Prix na 2019 niet meer onder de afspraken in de huidige verbintenis te hoeven organiseren is niet goed gevallen bij de F1 Group. Vooral de timing van de aankondiging - in de week op weg naar de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië van 2017 en aan de vooravond van een groot evenement in de straten van Londen - wekte wrevel.

De F1 Group reageerde middels een verklaring op de beslissing van Silverstone. "De week voorafgaand aan de Britse Grand Prix zou in het teken moeten staan van het vieren van de Formule 1-race op Silverstone. We betreuren dan ook dat de BRDC en Silverstone dit moment uitgekozen hebben om stelling te nemen, positie te kiezen en een clausule te activeren die over twee jaar pas in werking treedt."

"We hebben nog aangeboden om de deadline te verschuiven zodat deze week de focus lag op alles wat mooi is aan Silverstone in de Formule 1. Helaas heeft het management van het circuit ervoor gekozen om voor korte termijn gewin te gaan om de eigen positie te verbeteren. Voor ons is het desondanks nog een doel om de Britse Grand Prix voor de ondergang te behoeden. We blijven onderhandelen met de promotor om een faire en rechtvaardige oplossing te bereiken."

    Tja zolang je 20 miljoen een faire en rechtvaardige oplossing vindt als bedrag wat een circuit moet ophoesten, kom je er niet uit. Geef BRDC groot gelijk.

      Als het meer oplevert dan het kost is het een 'faire en rechtvaardige oplossing'. Althans, dan komt het aardig in de buurt. Maar BRDC is natuurlijk ook niet gek.

      Met die 20 tot 30 miljoen ben je er alleen nog niet. Denk dat de (lokale) overheden ook wel een beetje klaar zijn met de als maar verhoogde kostenpost die zo'n week met zich meebrengt. Daarnaast is op basis van de afgelopen jaren een aardige nacalculatie te maken en daar zal dit uit voortkomen.

    De clou zit 'm in de laatste twee zinnen. Zo zie je maar hoe effectief is om op het juiste moment te gaan klagen.

    En toch gaat met een eventueel nieuw contact voor Silverstone de trend gezet worden. Hierin gaat Liberty laten zien hoe ver zij willen gaan voor een klassieke Grand Prix.
    Ecclestone zou vast hebben gehouden aan de fee. Liberty gaat laten zien waar circuits de komende decennia aan vast moeten houden om een Grand Prix te kunnen organiseren. Ik ben erg benieuwd.

    Als Liberty en consorten overstag gaan scheppen ze een precedent voor andere circuits. Die zullen wellicht ook hun contracten opnieuw willen onderhandelen. Dit ziet er slecht uit voor Silverstone.

    Voor de 10.002e keer: Europese circuits moeten zich verenigen. Dat zijn er meer dan er GP's gereden kunnen worden, maar dan kunnen zij in onderling overleg een toerbeurt systeem regelen. Maar wat vooral belangrijk is: als 1 man aan de onderhandelingstafel zitten en een prijs regelen die wel fair is.

    Sterker, voor circuits is dit zelfs pure noodzaak. Als je hiermee tot einde der dagen wacht, zullen de machtsverhoudingen dusdanig verschuiven dat LMG op den duur zelf zieltogende circuits gaat opkopen.

    Hoewel ik enorm hou van de historische tracks, ooit komt er een tijd waarin deze niet meer gebruikt zullen worden. Als een circuit meer verlies maakt dan winst, kan je ze ook geen ongelijk geven natuurlijk.. Ik denk dan aan het oude circuit van Monza met z'n kombochten, circuit monthléry of de oude Nurburgring .. Geweldige tracks die de tand des tijds niet doorstaan hebben (om welke reden dan ook) .. Evolueren is niet stil blijven staan natuurlijk en ik vrees dat de F1 group er zo ook over denken.. Ander en beter(?) ... Aan de andere kant zouden ze zich beter zorgen maken dat een land, met vorig jaar drie rijders in de F1, het financieel niet kan redden..
