Silverstone bijt van zich af na verwijten van Liberty

De organisatie van de Britse Grand Prix heeft zich verweerd tegen beschuldigingen van Liberty Media dat ze deze week uitgekozen hebben om stelling te nemen tegen de voorwaarden in het Formule 1-contract. De British Racing Drivers' Club, eigenaar van Silverstone, activeerde de ontsnappingsclausule waardoor de verbintenis met de Formule 1 nu na 2019 afloopt.

Liberty Media betreurde de timing van die mededeling, in de week voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië van 2017 en aan de vooravond van F1 Live Londen. BRDC-voorzitter John Grant slaat terug. "Het was absoluut geen kwestie van stelling innemen. We hadden één kans om onze toekomst en ons voortbestaan veilig te stellen. We hebben tot het laatst mogelijke moment gewacht omdat we al onze opties open wilden houden."

"We hadden geen andere keus dan de clausule in het contract te lichten. We willen echter duidelijk maken dat we ervoor open staan om de samenwerking met onze vrienden van Liberty Media voort te zetten. Een Britse Grand Prix in Londen zou nergens op slaan. Liberty heeft herhaaldelijk gezegd dat ze de iconische circuits willen beschermen. Silverstone is het enige iconische Formule 1-circuit in Groot-Brittannië."

      Silverstone het enige iconische circuit? Brand's Hatch is ook legendarisch. Als ze dat weer in ere herstellen heb ik daar ook niks op tegen.

      Donington, Oulton, Brands Hatch, Silverstone. Van al die circuits is alleen Silverstone echt compleet up to date. Voor de rest zijn het allemaal circuits zoals Zolder en Zandvoort. Mooie prachtige banen maar behoorlijk outdated.

      Matig baantje? Ik vind het een prachtig circuit, en zit helemaal niet op een of ander Mickey Mouse stratencircuitje in Londen te wachten, in een ongetwijfeld "mind blowing decor"

    Ze spelen gewoon een smerig spel om zoveel mogelijk media-aandacht te krijgen. Liberty had hen al beloofd dat ze de clausule ook gewoon later nog mochten activeren, dat dat geen probleem zou zijn.

      Er is geen baan groter dan de formule 1, dus exit. Kunnen ze straks weer aansluiten om er een te mogen organiseren. Nee wil niet meer stratencircuits en Mickey Mouse banen, maar er zijn genoeg andere mooie banen

      Tja ze betalen al minder dan het gemiddelde circuit, maar toch draaien ze met een vol huis verlies. Andere circuits, met veel minder volk, zijn wel leefbaar.

      Los van het feit dat ze de investeringen in het pitgebouw destijds eerst in hun eigen clubhuisje gestoken hebben, om dan jaren later inderdaad plots heel snel te moeten gaan bouwen omdat Ecclestone anders niet meer terug wil.

    Het is het spel dat elk bedrijf voert. Silverstone wil niet van de kalender, ze wil enkel de fee naar beneden halen. LM wil daar niet in meegaan om de andere circuits niet op gedachten te brengen. Bij de overname van F1 zijn ze waarschijnlijk uitgegaan van bestaande inkomsten. Die zullen ze het eerste jaar niet dadelijk willen zien zakken. Tenminste toch niet tot een nieuw business plan andere inkomsten aanboort...

    Volgens mij gaat Silverstone er minstens een (paar) jaar uit. Om dan opnieuw met LM rond de tafel te gaan zitten. Eerder zal LM niet willen negotiëren over nieuwe voorwaarden. Ze zullen de andere circuits duidelijk maken dat heronderhandelen risico's inhouden.

    Een kalender-entry delen bijvoorbeeld: Londen springt in het gat en Silverstone en Londen gaan dan om het jaar door.

    Zo zou ik het doen :-)

      Silverstone zet de toon voor andere circuits, en dat is een goede zaak. Fee omlaag, dan kunnen toegangsprijzen omlaag en komen er meer toeschouwers.

      Behalve dan dat Silverstone helemaal uitverkocht is, hoezo meer toeschouwers? Is gewoon een pokerspel wat Silverstone aan 't spelen is ... Men vraagt zich al regelmatig af waarom Silverstone geen dikke winst maakt met zoveel toeschouwers... Kan ook gevalletje mis-management zijn wat ze nu met dit soort acties bij Liberty en voorheen Ecclestone leggen...

      Ja, dat is idd een goede zaak. Maar LM gaat daar voorlopig niet in mee willen gaan.

      Die hebben pas een overname gedaan met een bestaand inkomstenpatroon.

      Ze zullen door andere -toekomstige- initiatieven de inkomsten deels kunnen verschuiven en zo de fee's kunnen verlagen, maar dat vraagt tijd.

      Wat we nu zien is een voorhoedegevecht om wie uiteindelijke de agenda gaat bepalen. LM of de circuits.

      Want dat andere circuits dit zullen volgen leidt geen twijfel

      Of een gevalletje "reken jezelf rijk" tijdens het opstellen van het business plan en inkomsten zwaar overschat.

      Of een gevalletje van creatief met de boekhouding omgaan en zo een drogreden te creëren om LM aan de heronderhandelingstafel te dwingen.

      @Dutchf1. Mooi de toegangsprijzen zo hoog laten. Anders gaan die tokkies uit Nederland overal naar toe. Afgelopen weekend zaten ze lekker goedkoop in Oostenrijk. Liever niet overal dat clownsgedrag

    Als het echt blijkt dat dit puur komt door de fee en niet door mismanagement door BRDC dan kan ik het wel voorstellen. Dit is een van de meest moderne circuits van Europa met altijd een uitverkocht huis, dan klopt er gewoon iets niet.
