Petronas en Mercedes sluiten nieuwe overeenkomst

Het team van Mercedes en het Maleisische Petronas hebben een nieuw contract afgesloten. Mercedes en Petronas zijn als sinds 2010 aan elkaar verbonden en Petronas is sinds dat jaar ook titelsponsor van het team. De nieuwe overeenkomst geldt voor de lange termijn.

Petronas en de Formule 1 zijn al meer dan twintig jaar aan elkaar verbonden. Van 1995 tot en met 2005 was Petronas de naamgever van de Ferrari-motoren van Sauber en stond het logo van het bedrijf prominent op de auto van de Zwitserse formatie.

De nieuwe overeenkomst is vorig jaar al getekend, maar beide partijen hebben besloten de deal pas vandaag wereldkundig te maken. Met het sluiten van de nieuwe overeenkomst komt er meteen een einde aan de geruchten dat Mercedes binnen een paar jaar uit de Formule 1 zal stappen.
