Plannen voor een F1-race in Olympisch Park in Londen

Er gaan steeds meer stemmen op om de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië na 2019 te verhuizen naar Londen. Silverstone heeft na dat jaar geen contract met de Formule 1 meer en de koningsklasse van de autosport speurt naar een alternatieve locatie. De Britse hoofdstad zou uitkomst kunnen bieden en Liberty Media zou dat geweldig vinden, maar waar moet die race dan plaatsvinden?

Daarover doen meerdere geruchten de ronde. Eerder is de wijk Docklands als optie genoemd, maar de Daily Mail schrijft nu dat een Formule 1-race in het Olympisch Park in de wijk Stratford tot de mogelijkheden behoort. Een onderneming genaamd London GP werkt in het diepste geheim al twaalf maanden aan plannen voor een Grand Prix op de locatie waar in 2012 de Olympische Spelen plaatsvonden.

Meer details over het beoogde circuit zijn niet bekend. Volgens London GP biedt het Olympisch Park de benodigde infrastructuur en zijn de transportverbindingen van dien aard dat er een evenement als een Formule 1-race georganiseerd kan worden. Het zou Londen wereldwijd nog meer op de kaart zetten en de belangstelling voor de koningsklasse van de autosport verder aanwakkeren.

London GP zou reeds met belangrijke stakeholders gesproken hebben en verdere gesprekken staan in de planning. Een officiële verklaring wordt binnenkort verwacht. In het Olympisch Park staat onder andere nog het Olympisch Stadion, dat omgebouwd is tot voetbalstadion voor West Ham United. Ook de overige sportvoorzieningen hebben een metamorfose ondergaan of een andere bestemming gekregen.

Dat geleuter over de geruchten omtrent Londen hebben we (Larry en Perkins) nu wel weer gehad hoor, Hongarije staat nu bovenaan de kalender.

Kom maar op Londen terug zodra er iets definitiefs is.

Als Liberty het echt allemaal voor de fans doen waar ze zo prat op gaan, dan zou Liberty gewoon even wat water bij de wijn moeten om Silverstone te behouden. Het is een iconisch circuit met veel historie, maar ja, dat geld hè.

  Exact! Als ze echt geven om de fans, luisteren ze naar hun wensen. En als er iets is wat het overgrote gedeelte van de fans wil, is het wel circuits met historie. Die historie is er niet voor niets in tientallen jaren opgebouwd.
  
  Dus veel plezier met je zandbakcircuits, je kille industrieterreinbanen, je oud olympisch (verlaten) park onzin. Geef ons race bloed zweet en tranen op banen die dit al jaren gefaciliteerd hebben.

Goed idee, want er zijn volgens mij mooie layouts mogelijk. Maar dan wel erbij en niet als vervanging Silverstone. Zou het mooi vinden als er een lijst van 'beschermde' circuits zou komen die altijd in het programma moeten zitten.

Er staat toch al iets dergelijks op de F1- kalender namelijk Sotsji. Wat on origineel. Past wel bij de gloed nieuwe koers die Liberty wil varen . Een zelfde 'keten' in elke stat. Mc F1
