Steve Nielsen treedt officieel in dienst van Formule 1

Liberty Media en Formula One Management hebben de komst van Steve Nielsen officieel bekendgemaakt. De Brit legt op 31 juli zijn taken als teammanager van Williams neer, waarna hij een dag later begint met zijn werkzaamheden voor de Formule 1.

Nielsen werkte eerder voor teams als Lotus, Tyrrell, Benetton/Renault, Honda, Arrows en Caterham. Hij gaat zich nu onder sportief directeur Ross Brawn bekommeren om de sport in zijn totaliteit. Brawn: "Ik ken Steve al jaren en heb met eigen ogen zijn vaardigheden en mogelijkheden gezien."

"Zijn aanstelling versterkt de werkgroep die we samen met de FIA en de teams aan het opzetten zijn om de sportieve en technische reglementen voor de toekomst van de Formule 1 te definiëren. Steve zal zich vooral bezighouden met sportieve en organisatorische zaken, zoals het bijwonen van de vergaderingen van de Sportieve Werkgroep."
