Tijd voor teams om te investeren in de F1 verstreken

De mogelijkheid voor teams om aandelen in de Formule 1 aan te schaffen is verstreken. Dat heeft Liberty Media naar buiten gebracht. De Formule 1-teams hadden tot en met zondag de tijd om te investeren in de sport waarin ze actief zijn. Liberty Media had aandelen voor de prijs van 21,26 dollar per aandeel beschikbaar gesteld, terwijl de aandelenprijs op dit moment veel hoger ligt.

Geen van de teams heeft daar gebruik van gemaakt. Liberty Media behoudt het recht om in de toekomst nogmaals aandelen aan de renstallen aan te bieden. Formule 1-baas Chase Carey: "We zijn actief betrokken bij de Formule 1-teams om gezamenlijk een gedeelde visie voor de sport te vormen die waarde creëert voor alle stakeholders. Hoewel de tijd voor deze investeringsmogelijkheid verstreken is, zijn we tevreden over de constructieve discussies die we met de teams voeren. Die discussies vergen tijd, maar we zijn blij dat de teams ontvankelijk zijn voor initiatieven ten gunste van de lange termijn-toekomst van de sport."

    Ze betalen al genoeg... is ook een manier van investeren... en inspraak hebben ze ook al... waarom betalen voor aandelen... als ze geen meerwaarde hebben? Ik snap de teams wel... ?

      Ik neem aan dat daar wel een clausule voor instaat... wat ervoor gezorgd heeft, dat de teams ze niet kunnen/mogen doorverkopen

      Helaas maar waar. F1 in huidige format heeft niet de toekomst voor fabrikanten om hun merk te promoten. Schat dat over 10 a 15 jaar F-e het primaire platform is voor fabrikanten en dat F1 puur een entertainment sport is. Daarom kunnen ze die ingewikkelde motor beter asap overboord gooien en gaan voor V10 /V12 en gelijkwaardige competitie.

      Pfff, juist een enorm gevoelige tik op de neus van Liberty Media. Als zelfs de teams die de sport maken niet bereid zijn er in te investeren dan geef je geen goed signaal richting potentiële aandeelhouders af.

      Op de achtergrond speelt natuurlijk een bekende discussie: de teams zijn van mening dat zij de sport maken tot wat het is en dan is het raar dat iemand anders "eigenaar" is van deze sport. Als ze (de teams) de geledingen goed gesloten houden dan heb je een grote kans dat ze op een andere manier (b.v. bij aflopen Concorde overeenkomst) een groter deel van de macht grijpen dan dat ze nu hadden kunnen kopen.

    Ik zou zelf ook niet in een toekomstige teenslipperfabriek investeren. Kan me voorstellen dat de teams dat ook niet zien zitten.
