Olielek beëindigde de invalbeurt van Paul di Resta

Voor Paul di Resta kwam er na zestig van de zeventig rondjes in de Hongaarse Grand Prix een einde aan zijn invalbeurt bij het team van Williams. De Schot, vervanger van de zieke Felipe Massa, had tot dat moment in de achterhoede gebivakkeerd. Hij deed niet heel veel onder voor het tempo van reguliere coureur Lance Stroll, maar na zestig ronden was het einde verhaal.

Williams-directeur Paddy Lowe legt uit: "Gezien de omstandigheden heeft Paul een geweldige race gereden. Zijn rondetijden waren zeer constant en hij bleef weg van alle problemen. Jammer genoeg begon zich een olielek in zijn auto te ontwikkelen. We zagen een enorme piek in olieverbruik en dat duidt erop dat de auto op het punt stond alle oliedruk te verliezen. Omdat dit een verse motor was wilden we het niet riskeren en hebben we hem uit voorzorg naar binnen gehaald."

Di Resta vult aan: "Ik wist niet wat ik kon verwachten, dus ik ging er met een open mind in. Je moet je met deze auto's heel erg bewust zijn van de ruimte om je heen, en hoeveel downforce je verliest met verkeer in de buurt. Ik was daarom voorzichtig bij de start en wilde vooral zonder brokken die eerste paar bochten doorkomen. Daarna begon ik me steeds meer op mijn gemak te voelen in de auto en kreeg ik steeds meer vertrouwen in de wagen."

"Het had leuk geweest om de finish te halen, maar een olielek gooide roet in het eten. Gezien de gebrekkige voorbereiding kan ik niet ontevreden zijn. Misschien had ik nog iets sneller kunnen rijden, dan was het helemaal mooi geweest. Fysiek gezien voel ik me niet verkeerd. Alleen mijn schouders doen een beetje pijn, maar dan vooral waar ze tegen het stoeltje aan zitten. Dat was te verwachten. Verder is het prima, beter dan ik had verwacht."

Wat mij vooral opviel is dat hij er best wel fit uit zag toen hij uitstapte (beeld vanuit de pit). Dat doet hij niet slecht als DTM coureur, lijkt me dat het DTM toch fysiek wel iets minder zwaar is.

Wat mij vooral opviel is dat hij er best wel fit uit zag toen hij uitstapte (beeld vanuit de pit). Dat doet hij niet slecht als DTM coureur, lijkt me dat het DTM toch fysiek wel iets minder zwaar is.

Hoe dan ook, prima invalbeurt gezien de omstandigheden. Jammer dat hij Stroll niet even versloeg in de kwalificatie en in de race, dat zou helemaal prachtig zijn geweest.

Zonder enige voorbereiding heel aardig gedaan. Zou Di Resta niet gewoon F1 waardig zijn als full time F1 coureur. Bij Force India deed hij het in die drie jaar niet eens heel gek, beter in ieder geval dan de Palmers en Ericssons van deze wereld.

  Het was een goed optreden en juist vanwege het gebrek aan voorbereiding had hij ook de gun factor mee. In die paar jaar F1 was het toch te vaak net niet. Het is wat dat betreft ook niet zo dat Paul geen eerlijke kans heeft gehad.

  Was inderdaad nog wat minder dan een subtoper, maar van mij mag Di Resta het seizoen bij Williams wel afmaken in plaats van Massa.

  Di Resta minder dan een subtopper noemen, is niet terecht, denk dat hij in een brede groep subtoppers zeker zal horen, waar veel rijders vaak een beetje overschat worden, hoort hij juist bij de groep onderschatte coureurs.
