Williams experimenteert bij de test op de Hungaroring

Het team van Williams is voor de in-season test in Hongarije op de experimentele toer gegaan. De Britse renstal heeft een aantal moeizame weekenden achter de rug en moet iets doen om de FW40 nieuw leven in te blazen. Scuderia Toro Rosso hijgt Williams in het kampioenschap immers in de nek. Om het tij te keren test het team met grote veranderingen voor de auto.

Dat liet Williams-directeur Paddy Lowe weten. "Het zijn significante aanpassingen die we uitproberen. We doen interessante dingen met het oog op Research & Development. Sommige zijn relevant voor dit jaar, andere zijn om te leren voor volgend seizoen. Er is belangrijk werk gaande. Het is een serie experimenten, dat is de beste manier om het te omschrijven. Zo pakken wij onze tests altijd aan. Wat we er verder mee gaan doen, die beslissing nemen we in een later stadium."

"Hongarije was een goed weekend om ons te motiveren om de auto sneller te maken. Zo vatten wij de Hongaarse Grand Prix samen. We hebben veel werk voor de boeg en we zijn beter dan we op de Hungaroring hebben laten zien. Er is een duidelijk patroon. We presteren niet op circuits waar maximale downforce vereist is, dus Monaco, Hongarije, Singapore straks. Al ben ik niet iemand die zich daar bij voorbaat al bij neerlegt, dus we zullen zien wat we in Singapore kunnen. Een hoop is toe te schrijven aan fundamentele ontwerpaspecten die we pas met de nieuwe auto kunnen wijzigen."

  Waarom andere coureurs. Zever altijd, Stroll moet je wat tijd gunnen. Als je kijkt naar Massa die doet het goed.

Het is toch tranen trekkend om Williams bij veel GP’s te zien knokken om Q2 te halen en dan vervolgens tijdens de race kleurloos hun rondjes af te werken.

Als je het mij vraagt zou Williams met een topcoureur dit seizoen gewoon iedere GP met RB in de strijd om P5/6/7 zijn beland.

Ze hebben gekozen voor de centen van Stroll om daarmee top engineers aan te trekken en de fabriek op een top niveau te krijgen met de hoop dat Lance binnen 1 jaar op niveau zou kunnen komen met Massa naast zich. Maar Lance blijkt behoudens wat fortuin bij 2 GP’s nog steeds bij lange na nog niet van een waardig F1 niveau te zijn. Het meest veelzeggend is misschien wel dat men bij andere teams Lance als voorbeeld noemt als het gaat over het te vroeg talenten in de F1 stallen.

  @Maximo. Denk hooguit gemiddeld om plaats 7 en 8, want naast de coureurs is ook het chassis niet op een niveau om de top zes onder druk te zetten.

  Dan moet Max in die rb gewoon telkens om de winst kunnen strijden ook, zeveraar. Williams is nog niet zo goed als rb.

Williams heeft in de afgelopen jaren gewoon geluk gehad dat ze met Mercedes-motoren reden. Ze zakken nu weer terug naar hun oude niveau en de toekomst ziet er niet veel beter uit met de opkomst van McLaren-Honda en Renault.

  idd. Jaren lang een KL* chassis met ditto aero gehad, De ophangingen en bakken van eigen fabricaat zijn ook maar mwah mwah... althans, niemand op de grid wil het gebruiken terwijl ze het gewoon aanbieden (alleen Manor deed dat). Lekker lui leunen op Mercedes...dat was het. Ik vond die 3e plek in het WK toen al onverdiend, en nu blijkt waarom.
  
  Gewoon weer eens je huiswerk niet gemaakt en met de dollar tekens in je ogen idioten in die auto zetten. Meer dan terecht dat ze eind dit jaar gewoon hekkensluiter zijn. Begrijp me niet verkeerd, Williams heeft veel betekend voor de F1 maar de laatste jaren is het een boegbeeld van luiheid en waardeloze innovatie.
  
  (ik vind die livery van Williams trouwens echt een belediging aan de F1 ... mijn hemel wat ziet dat ding er uit zeg)

Schrijf dan voor elk team zn artikel dat zij aan het experimenteren zijn.

  En ik zou het fijn vinden om dan iets meer te weten te komen met wat wordt geëxperimenteerd, want 'significante toepassingen' vind ik nou niet echt lekker duidelijk.
