Demotivatie ligt nu op de loer voor ploeterend Sauber

Het team van Sauber sleept zich naar het einde van het seizoen. De Zwitserse renstal verheugt zich al op 2018, wanneer het de beschikking krijgt over de nieuwste generatie krachtbronnen van Ferrari. De Scuderia zal zich in toenemende mate over Sauber gaan ontfermen. Tot die tijd is het behelpen.

Zoals in Hongarije, waar Sauber het eerste deel van een grote update introduceerde. De Zwitserse renstal schoot er alleen weinig mee op. Het team bungelde zoals wel vaker de laatste tijd roemloos onderaan de tijdenlijstjes. De C36 met 2016-specificatie Ferrari-motoren is gewoon te langzaam.

De nieuwe teambaas Frederic Vasseur windt er geen doekjes om en waakt voor demotivatie. "Onze performance is simpelweg niet goed genoeg om de strijd aan te gaan met de concurrentie. De komende races worden moeilijk. We moeten gefocust en gemotiveerd blijven in de tweede helft van dit seizoen."

De teleurstelling was ook groot voor coureur Marcus Ericsson, die meer van de nieuwe onderdelen had verwacht. "De performance was niet wat we ervan gehoopt hadden. We konden de teams voor ons niet bijbenen. Dat was vrij teleurstellend. We hadden juist op een stap voorwaarts gerekend met onze aerodynamische updates. Na de zomerpauze moeten we in staat zijn om onszelf te verbeteren."

    Al hang je er een Mercedes fabrieksmotor in die je permanent in kwali stand zet, dan nog zie ik ze geen punten halen. De aero is kennelijk dusdanig ruk dat circuits als de HG ring bijna onberijdbaar zijn voor ze. De rest van het spul onder de kap zal ook vast niet het beste van de plank zijn.

    Begin is met alles op niveau te brengen om die motor heen. Wel jammer, de Sauber ziet er strak uit dit jaar.

      @Aap: tja we kunnen er erg moeilijk over doen maar mede dankzij Longbow en dus ook Ericsson staat Sauber nog wel op de grid. Ik zie er ook graag andere, meer talentvolle coureurs rijden maar toch liever Sauber met paydriver dan geen Sauber. Bij Nasr was het probleem volgens mij vooral dat Banco de Brasil er mee stopte en dus was hij ook gewoon een paydriver, die door punten te halen het lot van Manor bepaalde en daarmee ongewild zichzelf uit de f1 knikkerde.

      Nasr was ook niet beter dan Ericsson, die had gewoon een gelukkige race in Brazilië.

      De prestatie van Nasr in Brazilië was heel erg goed juist. Er stond om meerdere redenen heel veel druk op hem, thuisrace, Manor moest verslagen worden om vele miljoenen binnen te halen, en de weersomstandigheden waren heel erg moeilijk. Vraag dat maar aan Ericsson, die reed weer eens traditioneel een Sauber plat zoals hij in bijna elke regenrace doet.

    Jup. En dan kan Wehrlein ook nog verwachten om vervangen te worden door een Ferrari junior. En Marcus maar aankloten.

    Nieuwe hoofdsponsor zoeken, Ericsson eruit jassen (met z'n stem waar teveel ergerlijke mid-tone inzit). Wehrlein een kans geven met een degelijke motor, met een Ferrari talent langs hem. Longbow en Marcus kunnen wel de reden zijn dat Sauber nog bestaat maar doe dan maar gewoon niet.. Het enige voordeel is dat er altijd een hekkensluiter zal zijn en je favoriete team niet als laatste zal eindigen.. Ik hoop dat, met Vasseur, er eens beweging in de zaak komt..
