Russell vergaapt zich aan remkracht in de Formule 1

George Russell werkte gisteren zijn eerste officiële testdag in de Formule 1 af. De GP3-coureur, die tot het opleidingsprogramma van Mercedes behoort, stapte bij de Duitse renstal in voor de eerste dag van de in-season test op de Hungaroring. Hij stelde niet teleur. Russell reed maar liefst 119 ronden en liet de vierde tijd noteren, op een halve seconde van Valtteri Bottas.

Russell: "Dit was ongelooflijk! Ik heb heel lang naar deze dag uitgekeken. Het is de droom van elke jonge coureur om een Formule 1-auto te besturen. Gelijk toen ik de baan op ging, had ik door hoeveel grip en downforce deze bolides genereren. Het is echt verbluffend. Dit weekend reed ik nog met de GP3 op hetzelfde circuit, maar de Formule 1 is van een compleet andere orde. Gelukkig heb ik veel in de simulator van Mercedes gezeten en wist ik dus een beetje wat ik kon verwachten."

"Het grootste verschil is dat je in de Formule 1 over stuurbekrachtiging beschikt, dat voelde ik meteen. En het potentieel van de remmen is enorm. Met de hoge topsnelheid op het rechte stuk en de downforce in de bochten had ik rekening gehouden. Maar ik vraag me of de buitenwereld de remkracht van deze machines begrijpt."

"In de GP3 kom je met 260, 270 kilometer per uur aan bij bocht 1 en rem je ongeveer bij het 100 meter-bord. Met de Formule 1 haalde ik de 300 kilometer per uur, maar ik remde 25 meter later dan dat ik met mijn GP3-auto deed. Ik ben vrij tevreden over mijn performance. 119 rondjes en een tijd die niet veel langzamer was dan die van Bottas, Dat is niet verkeerd voor een eerste keer."

  Voor iemand die voor het eerst in die auto rijdt, is een halve seconde in de formule 1 heel weinig.

Moet toch echt een super ervaring zijn zo'n F1 bolide! En hier zouden toch veel meer testen van moeten zijn, zeker voor de nieuwe toekomstige coureurs!

Denk dat hij een goede opmerking maakt, wij als 'normale' mensen hebben geen idee hoe het voelt om F1 remkracht te ervaren.
