Renovatie Hungaroring begint na Grand Prix 2018

De Hungaroring is voor de lange termijn zeker op de Formule 1-kalender. Vorige week zaten de tribunes volgepakt op de smalle en bochtige baan in Mogyrod, iets waar veel andere Grand Prix jaloers op kunnen zijn. Zoals altijd zijn er verbeterpunten en volgend jaar start een groot renovatieproject om de faciliteiten te moderniseren.

De werkzaamheden staan al langer op de planning, maar de financiering en planning is nu ook rond. Na de Grand Prix van Hongarije in 2018 zullen de werkzaamheden beginnen. Het project wordt in drie fasen uitgevoerd, te beginnen met de tribunes. Doel is om een soort stadion gedeelte te bouwen vanaf de laatste bocht. De tribunes zijn nauwelijks gewijzigd sinds de eerste Grand Prix van Hongarije in 1986.

In 2020 zal er een nieuw gebouw worden neergezet voor race control en zullen ook de pitsgebouwen worden aangemaakt. Naast de renovatieplannen wil men ook een museum en bezoekerscentrum gaan realiseren. Het totale project kost meer dan honderd miljoen euro. De plannen voor renovatie lagen er al langer, alleen duurde het lang voordat de Hongaarse overheid geld kon vrijmaken voor het project.
