'Phoenix spreekt niet tot de verbeelding, New York wel'

Liberty Media hanteert een vijfjarenplan wat betreft het toevoegen van meer Grands Prix in de Verenigde Staten aan de Formule 1-kalender. Dat onthulde Formule 1-baas Chase Carey in gesprek met Auto Bild. Op dit moment is Austin de enige Amerikaanse Formule 1-race op het schema.

Daar moet verandering in komen, vinden ze bij Liberty. Maar de eigenaar van de Formule 1 neemt rustig de tijd. Carey: "Ik ga Bernie Ecclestone niet bekritiseren, want hij heeft heel veel dingen goed gedaan. Ik denk alleen dat hij soms te veel naar deals voor de korte termijn keek. Neem New York bijvoorbeeld, het vergt tijd en een hoop planning om daar naartoe te gaan."

"De Formule 1 liet het werk vroeger altijd over aan de promotor, maar dat is niet meer mogelijk. Zo werkt het gewoon niet meer. Je moet tot de verbeelding spreken. Dat doe je niet met Phoenix, maar wel met New York of Miami. De eerste signalen zijn al zichtbaar. Door ons nieuwe social media-beleid ontvangen we veel meer feedback vanuit de VS. Er bestaat daar toch een grotere fanschare voor de Formule 1 dan gedacht."

    Begrijp wel dat New York beter ligt bij mensen....maar in Phoenix heb je hele mooie brede wegen, mooi weer (extreem heet) en genoeg ruimte. Logistiek ook veel gemakkelijker.

    Weet je wat pas tot de verbeelding spreekt? Een moddervet circuit qua lay-out waar veel inhaalacties te verwachten zijn!
    Leuk, een mooie skyline op de achtergrond maar stratencircuits zijn vaak niet de meest fijne circuits voor geweldige inhaalacties.

      Je vergeet dat steden in Amerika veel en veel bredere straten hebben dan Europese en Aziatische. Bovendien is het gebouwd in blokken zodat je de kruispunten als 1 bocht heel breed kunt maken voor inhalen.
      Als er een stad in de wereld geschikt is voor straatraces zijn het de Amerikaanse steden (afgezien van grote delen in San Fransisco misschien.)

      Hahaha roestbak !!! Mooi argument ! Bredere straten en blokken nou ik zie er nog weinig moois in. Krijgen we zo'n mooi formule E circuit zeker ?.........nou laat maar. Doe me dan maar gewoon Monaco

    De F1 heeft de VS niet nodig, er zijn meer dan genoeg mooie circuits waar gereden kan worden. Maar die snor heeft dat nu eenmaal in gedachte we gaan de VS veroveren, ik denk dat dat nog gaat tegen vallen.
