Hamilton op zijn hoede voor valkuilen met de banden

Het team van Mercedes heeft vorderingen geboekt met de banden, maar de Duitse renstal moet oppassen voor nieuwe onaangename verrassingen. Die boodschap is afkomstig van coureur Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes had begin dit seizoen veel moeite om de zachtere compounds van Pirelli in het ideale raamwerk te krijgen. Op dat vlak is progressie geboekt, maar Hamilton durft het nog niet helemaal als afgehandeld te bestempelen.

"We zijn van ver gekomen. We hebben de problemen min of meer verholpen, maar we moeten op onze hoede blijven voor eventuele valkuilen", begint de drievoudig kampioen. "We hebben last van blaren op de banden. Dat zag je vooral in de afgelopen races. De auto's zijn dit jaar sneller en vergen meer van de banden. Dat werkt door naar het oppervlak van de banden. Het is zaak om te begrijpen waar dat vandaan komt en de mate waarin dat lukt verschilt per circuit."

"We hebben de kapotte banden bij Ferrari op Silverstone gezien. Het is een kwestie van constant een vinger aan de pols houden, we moeten het continu in de gaten houden. Dat geldt ook voor mij als coureur. Samen met mijn bandenengineers probeer ik uit te vogelen hoe ik de banden het best kan gebruiken en hoe ver ik kan pushen. Dat zal ook bij de resterende negen races zo zijn. We blijven leren. We bevinden ons in een goede positie, maar we mogen ons niet laten verrassen."

Houten wielen hebben meestal een metalen loopring, die door een krimpverbinding vast blijft zitten. Misschien iets voor Mercedes???

Veel kritiek lees je hier vaak over Hamilton's levensstijl en dat hij in de F1 weinig meer doet dan hard rijden. Blijkt uit dit stukje maar weer dat ook hij een coureur is die echt wel helemaal met zijn vak bezig is.

  Graham Hill en James Hunt deden ook niks anders dan feesten.. Wonnen wel races :) Ik haal op m'n werk ook het onderste uit de kan maar dat neemt niet weg dat de weekends ook feestelijk zijn ;) De boog mag niet altijd gespannen staan. Imo is Lewis (en ik ben geen fan van hem) altijd op een goede manier bezig geweest met z'n vak. Drie wereldtitels liegen er niet om. :)
