Steiner: "Iedereen is op dit moment een bedreiging voor ons"

Günther Steiner, teambaas van Haas F1, zegt dat ieder team in het midfield is op dit moment een bedreiging voor de Amerikaanse renstal. Steiner zegt dit op basis van de eerste seizoenshelft waar de races achter de topteams vaak onvoorspelbaar waren.

Williams Racing, Toro Rosso, Haas F1 en Renault bezetten de plaatsen 5 tot en met 8 in de strijd om de constructeurstitel en het verschil tussen die plaatsen is slechts 15 punten. Alleen Force India lijkt zich te hebben losgemaakt van deze teams met een voorsprong van 60 punten op de nummer 5.

Maar ook McLaren lijkt aan te kunnen gaan haken na de goede resultaten in Hongarije. Steiner wordt gevraagd of hij zich zorgen maakt over de opkomst van McLaren: "Om eerlijk te zijn moeten wij ons om iedereen zorgen maken, maar er zijn ook altijd kansen. Zo had Williams een slechte racesnelheid in Hongarije bijvoorbeeld. Maar ik wil niet te snel conclusies trekken, het zit zo dicht bij elkaar: het kan iedere week weer anders zijn."

Dat het inderdaad veel kan verschillen blijkt ook uit de resultaten van het team zelf. In Azerbeidzjan en Oostenrijk haalde het team respectievelijk 6 en 8 punten om de twee races daarna op nul te blijven staan. "Het is schommelt behoorlijk en er is niet echt een trend te ontdekken wie waar snel is. Ik denk bijvoorbeeld dat Williams weer snel zal zijn op Spa en Monza, maar zeker weten doe ik het niet. Het verloopt allemaal een beetje vreemd dit jaar," aldus Steiner.

Mega spannend wie er met de vijfde plaats vandoor gaat aan het einde van het seizoen. Ik gok op .. nee, ik zou het echt niet weten.

  Niet dat die vijfde plek zo sensationeel is, maar altijd nog beter dan wat er t.a.v. de vijfde plek in het rijderskampioenschap verwacht kan worden. Dat wordt gegarandeerd Max, tenzij hij de 2e helft nog meer uitvalt.

Ik las ergens dat ze zich vanaf nu op de 2018 auto gingen concentreren...
Dat wordt dan plek 8 of 9, Sauber zie ik er als enige nog niet bijkomen.

  Ik denk dat ieder team, niet behorende tot de top 2, nu al de prioriteiten bij 2018 heeft gelegd. Niet dat men voor de resterende races niets meer doet, maar wel dat de betreffende hoofden ontwikkeling vooral met volgend seizoen bezig zijn.
