Mike Gascoyne neemt 'F1 two-seater' onder handen

De eerste afbeeldingen van een verbeterde uitvoering van de 'two-seater' die sinds eerder dit jaar onderdeel uitmaakt van de omlijsting van de Grands Prix zijn opgedoken. De Formule 1 biedt fans sinds dit seizoen de kans om in het kader van F1 Experiences een rondje mee te rijden in een Formule 1-bolide. Dat project staat onder leiding van Paul Stoddart, oud-teambaas van Minardi.

Mike Gascoyne staat hem bij als technisch directeur. In die hoedanigheid heeft hij wat modificaties aangebracht bij de auto die gebruikt wordt. De wagen is gebaseerd op een Tyrrell 026 uit 1998. Het is de bedoeling om volgend seizoen twee tweezitters naar elke Grand Prix mee te nemen, nadat dit jaar een begin is gemaakt door middel van een beperkt programma.

      Klopt, ik vermoed dat dit voor een stukje hoofdbescherming is mocht de wagen op de kop raken, dat de helm de grond niet kan raken.

      En het is ook voor de coureur, lijkt me namelijk niet zo fijn als ze bij het remmen voor een bocht steeds het hoofd van hun gast tegen zich aan krijgen.

      Kan dan toch ook een stalen buis zijn met een transparant paneel of iets dergelijks lijkt mij?
      Als je nu als passagier achterin zit, kun je alleen maar opzij kijken. Je wordt al compleet door elkaar geschud, maar als je niet eens kun zien of er een bocht aankomt, wordt je helemaal verrast.

      Stoddart koopt STR gewoon terug, en het zou tijd worden dat er een dergelijke teambaas in de paddock rond loopt!

    Die tweezitter staat op het programma van Spa vermeld. Er zijn 10 minuten voor gereserveerd. Is dat voor presentatie, of rijdt hij dan een paar rondjes?

    Zou veel leuker zijn als het reverse was, zoals vroeger bij sommige oude dubbeldekker vliegtuigen, de piloot op de achterste stoel..... Wel het risico dat je ondergekotst werd/wordt..... LOL
