Zonder geloof in winstkansen was Raikkonen gestopt

Kimi Raikkonen is er heilig van overtuigd dat hij nog steeds mee kan dingen naar Grands Prix-zeges en een gooi kan doen naar het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1, anders had hij nooit zijn contract bij Ferrari verlengd voor 2018. Dat verklaarde de Fin in de aanloop naar de Belgische Grand Prix. De laatste overwinning van Raikkonen dateert uit 2013.

"Ik zou niet blijven als ik daar niet blij mee was. En het team denkt er net zo over. Zodoende. Het gaat me alleen om het racen. Verder niets. Ik geniet er nog steeds van en ben nog steeds snel.  Zolang ik denk te kunnen strijden om het winnen van races of kampioenschappen, blijf ik. Anders was ik allang gestopt", verklaarde de wereldkampioen van 2007.

Op de vraag of de ervaren Räikkönen vooral mag blijven om Sebastian Vettel te ondersteunen, antwoordde hij: "Dat moet je aan het team vragen. Ik wilde alleen nog een jaar doorgaan. Verder boeit het me niet. Maar ja, Sebastian en ik kunnen goed met elkaar samenwerken, net als het hele team. Hopelijk blijft alles zoals het nu is."

      Precies hij gaat nog een hele koude douche krijgen volgend seizoen en een koude kermis thuiskomen. Vettel blijft nr 1 en Ferrari zal het volgend seizoen net zo spelen.

      Is gewoon standaard praatje voor de media. Hij doet t voor t geld en wellicht is hem een overwinning belooft richting t winde v/h seizoen, als Vettel de titel binnen bereik heeft.

    Ja, Coulthard, Webber, Barrichello etc. zeiden dat ook altijd....een losse race werd er wel eens gewonnen.

      Sterker nog, Webber werd bijna kampioen;) maar reed als een natte krant de laatste race.

      Nee, niet vergeten dat hij WK werd....maar kijk er gerust alle jaren maar op na, altijd zijn al deze rijders benadeeld en altijd riepen ze dat ze WK kunnen worden en allemaal worden ze dat niet op die ene na dan....maar daarna is heel goed naar voren gekomen hoe ze bij Ferrari aankijken naar de persoon Raikkonen.
      I.m.o. hebben al deze rijders op een vreemde manier altijd meer pech dan de 1e rijder.

      Webber had in 2010 juist meer geluk dan Vettel. Vettel kreeg 3x vanuit leidende positie pech (Bahrein, Australie en Zuid-Korea). Alle kansen waren er voor Webber dat jaar maar hij bakte er in Abu Dhabi geen hol van.

      Gelukkig focuste Ferrari zich volledig op Webber en ging Alonso ook naar binnen, terwijl Vettel onbedreigd P1 kon pakken.

      In alle andere gevallen heb je gelijk Dutch maar wat betreft Webber gaat je betoog niet op. In 2010 had namelijk Vettel juist de meeste pech.

    Kimi is goed genoeg om kampioen te worden. Daar zijn wel wat voorwaarden voor nodig om te worden ingevuld.

    De enige winstkans die Raikkonen heeft is als Vettel niet direct voor of achter hem rijdt. En zelfs dan bestaat nog een kans dat Ferrari Raikkonen slachtoffert ten gunste van Vettel. Al zo vaak gezien dat Raikkonen zijn strategie gekozen wordt om zo goed mogelijk Vettel te dienen. Zoals veel te lang doorrijden in de eerste stint zodat Ferrari exact kan bepalen in welke ronde Vettel het beste zijn 2e pitstop kan maken. Dit meestal ook tot ongenoegen van Raikkonen.

    Afgelopen race werd Raikkonen naar binnen geroepen om zeker te zijn dat hij achter Vettel zou komen. Dit terwijl Raikkonen op dat moment sneller rondreed dan Vettel en nog makkelijk een aantal ronden door had kunnen rijden.

    Vettel is op het moment de betere coureur en dat hij de voorkeur krijgt ten opzichte van Raikkonen is logisch. Maar Ferrari gaat hier wel heel erg ver in. Zelfs als Vettel met een probleem rondrijdt en Raikkonen makkelijk de overwinning kan halen loopt Ferrari liever risico om de race te verliezen als dit de beste strategie is voor Vettel.

      Monaco kon ik nog begrijpen maar Hongarije echt niet. Ferrari nam namelijk het risico de overwinning te verspelen als beide Mercedes mannen écht dichtbij waren gekomen. Gelukkig bleek het probleem van Vettel niet reuze groot maar ik had op zeker gespeeld en zou Kimi voluit laten gaan.
