Vandoorne zeker dat belangstelling uit België aanzwelt

McLaren-coureur Stoffel Vandoorne is niet jaloers dat Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen komend weekend in België op veel meer steun kan rekenen dan hijzelf. De Belg rijdt op Spa-Francorchamps een thuisrace, maar de meeste fans komen dit weekend toch voor zijn half Belgische collega Verstappen. De belangstelling vanuit België moet nog aanzwellen.

Dat gebeurt vanzelf zodra Vandoorne successen gaat boeken. "Mijn situatie is natuurlijk wel heel anders dan die van Max. Hij zit al langer in de Formule 1 en heeft wat mooie successen behaald, ikzelf doe amper een halfjaar mee. We hebben nog niet tegen elkaar gevochten om de punten. Maar als het zich aan mijn kant nog meer ontwikkelt, weet ik zeker dat er volgend jaar meer Belgen in Spa zijn!"

McLaren bevestigde eerder deze week dat Vandoorne ook in 2018 voor het team racet. "Het begin van het seizoen ging niet geweldig, we hadden veel problemen op circuits en weinig rijtijd. Nu gaat het beter, de auto ligt me beter. Ik zit steeds vaker dichtbij mijn teamgenoot Fernando Alonso. De tweede helft van het seizoen zal het nog beter gaan."

"Het is goed om te zien dat het team weet wat ik kan en nog steeds voor honderd procent achter me staat. Ik ben heel blij als Formule 1-coureur hier in Spa te zijn - met allerlei vrienden en familie in de buurt. Hopelijk zijn er kansen in de race, ondanks de zware grid penalty die we hebben gekregen."

Zo gingen ze op het WK wereldkampioen worden met 2 vingers in de neus, maar werden ze kansloos uitgeschakeld.

    In de eerste plaats is het natuurlijk zo dat Honda niks presteert wat het niet aantrekkelijk maakt. Maar heel eerlijk zijn Belgen gewoon veel minder fanatiek in het supporten en veel meer op zichelf gericht. Ze zijn bijna het tegenovergestelde van de extroverte Nederlander. Daar zit mi het grootste verschil in en dat zal nooit veranderden. En ik ben er wel blij om ook, want nu is het een echt Hollandse GP geworden en niet een 50/50 van alles wat GP. Volle gas Max!!!!

      Scuderia... ehhh volgens mij eindigden we derde met oa 5-1 zege op WK Spanje en 3-0 tegen thuisland Brazilie... Belgie dat toernooi niet gezien, deden ze ook mee?
      Overigens stelt Nederland nu niets meer voor maar dat veranderd wel weer. Maar nu zeggen we ook niet dat we even WK gaan worden hoor!

      EK of WK wat het ook was, in ieder geval niet hetgene in Spanje toen ...
      Wij waren ons aan het klaarstomen wss toen, zoals je ongetwijfeld hebt ongemerkt zit er bij elke europese topper wel een klasse Belg ... Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, PSG,....

      Jazeker maar nationaal hebben ze nog steeds niks laten zien ondanks hun kwaliteiten. Maar laten we nu eerst genieten van eindelijk na lang wachten weer een weekend F1.

    Max maakt bij velen van ons emoties los, emoties we bij een Doornbos of Alberts niet hadden. Dezelfde emoties die Jos losmaakte. Het is moeilijk te zeggen waar daar nu precies de crux in zit, maar Max geniet een populariteit die met niemand te vergelijken is.

      Ja helemaal eens. Ik was al fanatiek fan van Jos terwijl ik nog heel jong was en nu met Max zijn al die gevoelens weer helemaal teruggekomen. Max is Jos 2.0 op en buiten de baan en ik en velen anderen zijn nog fanatieker fan dan toen.

    Vandoorne mist is een zekere x-factor die o.a. Max wel heeft. Hij is gewoon een beetje een grijze muis. Ik hoop dat spoedig zijn resultaten voor hem gaan spreken. Overigens profiteert Max natuurlijk ook van de Red Bull PR en marketing machine. Dat mist McLaren wel.

      Eens met je eerste opmerkingen. Laatste is natuurlijk niet waar, Max heeft helemaal niemand nodig aan marketing hij zelf is de grootste marketing. Kijk hoe populair Jos ook al was, en kijk in kleinere andere sporten hoe enthousiast we zijn zoals bij Premier league Darts in Rotterdam alles oranje en nu recent het Nederlands vrouwen EK winst enorme aantallen oranje fans bij de huldiging wij staan achter onze helden dat is altijd al zo geweest.

      Stoffel mist alleen resultaten en een deftige bolide.
      Het verschil tussen Nederlanders en Belgen is het volgende.
      De meeste Belgen kijken voornamelijk F1 om de sport F1.
      Het grootste deel van de Nederlanders kijken nu F1 omwille van Max.
      Ongetwijfeld zullen zij die kijken voor de sport zelf, overblijven, de rest wordt het na een tijd toch beu.
