F1-rentree Alfa Romeo voorlopig niet aan de orde

Fiat- en Ferrari-voorzitter Sergio Marchionne (foto) heeft al tijden de mond vol van een mogelijke terugkeer van Alfa Romeo in de Formule 1, maar die plannen zijn tijdelijk en mogelijk voorgoed op sterk water gezet. Fiat Chrysler overweegt namelijk om Alfa Romeo van de hand te doen, meldt Bloomberg.

De verkoop van luxe-merken als Alfa Romeo en ook Maserati moet Fiat aantrekkelijker maken voor een alliantie met een andere autofabrikant die zich op massaproductie richt. Fiat hoopt zo'n 7 miljard euro op te halen met de verkoop van Alfa Romeo en Maserati.

Een afsplitsing draagt risico's met zich mee, aangezien zowel Alfa Romeo als Maserati de allure van Ferrari missen en niet sterk genoeg zijn om op eigen benen te staan. Daarom wordt er gezocht naar een partner. Fiat wil tevens afscheid nemen van hun belangen in andere aftakkingen, zoals bijvoorbeeld Magneti Marelli. Analisten schatten de waarde van die divisies op 5 miljard euro.
