Force India gaat Auer nog in vrijdagtrainingen inzetten

Het team van Force India wil meer zien van Lucas Auer. De DTM-coureur kwam begin vorige maand namens de Indiase renstal in actie bij de in-season test op de Hungaroring en presteerde daar naar behoren. Force India is nu bezig een schema op te stellen om de 22-jarige Oostenrijker vaker aan de Formule 1 te laten proeven.

Speed Week vernam van Force India-directeur Otmar Szafnauer: "Lucas heeft zijn werk bij de test in Hongarije goed en professioneel gedaan. Hij voerde de taken uit die wij hem meegaven en verbeterde zich continu. We willen nu graag zien hoeveel meer hij nog in zijn mars heeft. Twee halve dagen op de Hungaroring waren niet genoeg."

"We zullen Auer dit seizoen nog inzetten bij enkele eerste vrije trainingen tijdens Grand Prix-weekenden. Hij is echter niet beschikbaar voor de test na afloop van het seizoen in Abu Dhabi." Het is nog niet duidelijk wanneer de Oostenrijker voor het eerst in een vrijdagtraining in actie komt voor Force India.

Misschien leidt het voor Auer tot meer, al lijkt Force India de huidige line-up met Esteban Ocon en Sergio Perez intact te houden voor 2018. Een jaar als test- en reservecoureur behoort eerder tot de mogelijkheden voor de Oostenrijker.
