Fry: "Bij Ferrari dachten ze alleen aan de korte termijn"

Pat Fry heeft zich kritisch uitgelaten over zijn oude werkgever Ferrari. De voormalig technisch directeur van de Scuderia is van mening dat men in Maranello erg kortzichtig te werk gaat. Er was in zijn tijd in elk geval niemand die zich om de lange termijn bekommerde.

Fry vertelde aan Sky Sports F1: "Toen ik halverwege 2010 bij Ferrari begon, was ik echt verbaasd over hoe gedateerd hun technologie was ten opzichte van McLaren, waar ik daarvoor werkte. De testsnelheid van de windtunnel was bijvoorbeeld behoorlijk langzaam en het duurde lang voordat we grip kregen op de problemen." Ferrari had zes maanden nodig om de gebreken van de windtunnel definitief vast te stellen.

"Vervolgens duurde het nog anderhalf jaar voordat ze de problemen verholpen hadden", gaat Fry verder. "Het is gewoon de immense druk waar Ferrari dagelijks mee te maken heeft. Men is continu bezig met zo goed mogelijk presteren in het eerstvolgende raceweekend, maar je hebt ook een plan voor de lange termijn nodig. Iemand moet nadenken over waar je over drie jaar moet staan. Bij Ferrari gebeurde dat niet, daar dachten ze alleen aan de korte termijn."

De Brit rept verder met geen kwaad woord over de Scuderia. "Werken voor Ferrari was fantastisch. De windtunnel is nu enorm verbeterd en hun technologie is er de afgelopen vijf, zes jaar ook op vooruit gegaan. Je hebt de juiste middelen en de juiste engineers nodig om een gooi naar de titel te doen."
