Vandoorne hoeft geen nieuwe MGU-K en ontloopt straf

McLaren-coureur Stoffel Vandoorne kan opgelucht adem halen. Honda hoeft geen onderdelen van zijn aandrijflijn te vervangen waardoor hij een grid penalty voor de Grand Prix van Singapore zou oplopen. De Belg stuitte twee weken geleden in Italië op problemen met zijn MGU-K.

Het euvel spitste zich toe op de MGU-K shaft. Honda detecteerde het probleem al tijdens de kwalificatie op Monza, maar er was geen tijd om het betreffende onderdeel te vervangen. Daarop besloot de Japanse autofabrikant om de gehele motor maar te verwisselen, maar het baatte niet.

Vandoorne viel in de race uit met hetzelfde probleem. Honda heeft nu bevestigd dat het de MGU-K shaft heeft vervangen, maar dat er verder geen nieuwe onderdelen heeft gemonteerd waar een straf op staat. Zodoende kan de McLaren-coureur in Singapore gewoon starten vanaf de positie waarop hij zich kwalificeert.
