'Formule 1 absoluut nog realistisch voor Lucas Auer'

Lucas Auer heeft een Formule 1-stoeltje voor 2018 aan zijn neus voorbij zien gaan, maar dat betekent niet dat de Oostenrijker in een later stadium niet alsnog tot de koningsklasse van de autosport toe zal treden. Dat zegt zijn oom Gerhard Berger in gesprek met Servus TV.

De oud Formule 1-coureur verklaarde: "Lucas heeft nog kansen. Force India houdt hem in de smiezen. Hij heeft op eigen kracht een Formule 1-test afgedwongen, ik heb hem daar niet bij geholpen. Hij is in de race om de titel in de DTM te winnen en bij de test in Hongarije heeft hij aangetoond dat een toekomst in de Formule 1 absoluut nog realistisch is."

Auer reed begin augustus twee halve dagen voor Force India bij de in-season test op de Hungaroring. De 23-jarige Oostenrijker blijft zelf rustig onder alle verhalen. "Dit heeft verder weinig invloed op mijn plannen. De Formule 1-test bij Force India was een teken van vertrouwen en we staan nog in contact met elkaar, maar de focus ligt voorlopig helemaal op de DTM."

De line-up van Force India bestaat in 2018 gewoon weer uit Sergio Perez en Esteban Ocon. Misschien dat voor Auer een rol als test- en reserverijder is weggelegd.
