Russische GP wegens WK voetbal in 2018 in september

De Grand Prix van Rusland vindt volgend seizoen eind september plaats. Opmerkelijk, aangezien de organisatie van het evenement op het circuit van Sotsji een paar jaar geleden juist om een datum eind april of begin mei had gevraagd. De eerste twee edities vonden in oktober plaats, daarna werd de Russische Formule 1-race verplaatst naar het voorjaar.

In 2018 staat de Grand Prix op de Sochi Autodrom dus weer in de herfst gepland. Die ommezwaai is mede ingegeven door het WK voetbal waarvan Rusland volgend jaar gastheer is. Sergey Vorobyev, promotor van de Russische Grand Prix, vertelde aan Motorsport-Total.com: "Ik ben een perfectionist. Een race begin mei is nog steeds geweldig, perfect, maar eind september is ook perfect voor ons."

"We kunnen de toeschouwers zo meer bieden. Het is dan wat warmer dan in het voorjaar en de timing voor zakenreizen is beter. De Grand Prix van Rusland zal de datum voor volgend jaar omarmen. Zakenlieden vinden een datum in september beter dan in mei, want in het voorjaar zit hun kalender al overvol." En het WK voetbal speelt dus een rol.

Vorobyev vervolgt: "We zijn trots dat Rusland gastheer is voor het WK voetbal, maar het zou niet goed zijn als onze Grand Prix zich voorafgaand aan het voetbaltoernooi afspeelt. We hebben ervoor gekozen om eerst het voetbal alle ruimte te geven en daarna de focus volledig op de Formule 1-race te richten. Het circuit van Sotsji leent zich voor extra activiteiten tijdens het WK voetbal."

  dat noemen we WK voetbal, dat is een competitie wie de beste van de wereld is in de sport die het meest gekeken/beoefend wordt. Er wordt ook het meeste schade mee gemaakt, bijvoorbeeld als ze in Napels zijn, dan maken wat supporters uit Rotterdam de hele boel kapot.
