682 politieagenten op de been voor Maleisische GP

Er is geen concrete dreiging rondom de Grand Prix van Maleisië van komend weekend, maar er zijn wel 682 politieagenten om de veiligheid te bewaken. Dat meldt persbureau Bernama. De organisatie van het evenement hoopt op 80.000 bezoekers voor de Formule 1-race op Sepang.

Op dit moment zijn er zo'n 60.000 kaarten verkocht. Sepang-directeur Razlan Razali vertrouwde aan Speed Week toe: "Ons marketingteam heeft me verteld dat de kaartverkoop aanzwelt. We weten allemaal dat de inwoners van Maleisië pas op het laatste moment besluiten om tickets aan te schaffen. Daarom ben ik ervan overtuigd dat we het doel van 80.000 toeschouwers zullen halen."

Over de veiligheid hoeven de bezoekers zich geen zorgen te maken, benadrukt Supt Baharuddin Mat Taib van het politiekorps van Sepang aan Bernama. "De veiligheidsmaatregelen zijn geïntensiveerd. Het terrein van het circuit wordt 24 uur per dag in de gaten gehouden om alle risico's te vermijden. Op dit moment zijn er geen concrete dreigingen."
