Race aan de oostkust van de VS prioriteit voor Liberty

Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media heeft zich ten doel gesteld om meer Grands Prix in de Verenigde Staten aan de kalender toe te voegen. Daarbij ligt de prioriteit in eerste instantie op de oostkust, vanwege de gunstigere tijdverschillen met Europa. Dat verklaarde Sean Bratches aan AutoWeek.

De commercieel directeur van de Formule 1 legt uit: "Dat Long Beach geen Grand Prix wil organiseren, dat vinden we niet heel erg. Long Beach is niet echt een locatie waar we naartoe willen. De tijdzones zijn zeer belangrijk voor het uitzendschema. De belangrijkste Formule 1-markten bevinden zich momenteel nog in Europa."

"We gaan het hier niet over potentiële racelocaties hebben. We staan in contact met meerdere steden aan de oostkust. In het verleden was de Formule 1 een wereld van veel woorden en weinig daden. Zo gaan wij niet te werk. Onze strategie is om eerst overeenkomsten te sluiten en pas daarna ergens mee naar buiten te treden."

Buenos Aires

Ook de Argentijnse hoofdstad Buenos Aires staat in de belangstelling van de Formule 1. Bratches: "We willen toe naar zes races per seizoen in Amerikaanse tijdzones. Die Grands Prix kunnen we op tijdstippen uitzenden die logisch zijn voor de Amerikaanse kijkers. Op dit moment hebben we er daar vier van: Austin, Canada, Mexico en Brazilië."

"Het is geen geheim dat Charlie Whiting recent een bezoek heeft gebracht aan Argentinië. Buenos Aires is zeker interessant voor ons. Het is een stad die globaal bekend is. Ze hebben een traditie met de Formule 1 en een passie voor racen. Bovendien beschikken ze over een circuit dat we kunnen gebruiken. De baan vergt wel wat werk, maar het zou een goede bestemming voor ons kunnen zijn."

Zorg maar dat bestaande Circuits behouden blijven, F1 zal nooit een groot succes worden in de VS. Maar daar komen ze nog wel achter, zorg eerst maar eens dat er 16 auto's kunnen strijden voor het podium.

  Jij denkt dat ze in de VS geheel uit hun bol gaan , als ze al van tevoren weten wie er gaat winnen, ik ben wakker maar als je de F1 een groot succes wilt laten worden in de VS dan zal je toch echt met iets beters moeten komen.

Een stratencircuit in NY lijkt mij wel vet maar meer races in de U S of A is sowieso leuk - ze zijn daar meer autosport minded dan hier - met Liberty aan het stuur zal de F1 toch meer in een beter daglicht komen te staan (niet dankzij de FIA met hun absurde regeltjes - maar mark my words...dit gaat ook nog wel veranderen)

Van de nieuwere circuits vind ik Circuit of the Americas een prachtig circuit met de hoogteverschillen en variatie aan bochten. Een 2e Amerikaanse GP zal ik ook toejuichen, mits het natuurlijk een klotecircuit wordt. ;)
