Formule 1 bevestigt contractverlenging voor China

Het hing al in de lucht en nu is het dan ook officieel bevestigd; de Grand Prix van China staat minstens tot en met 2020 op de Formule 1-kalender. Het evenement op het circuit van Sjanghai had een aflopend contract, maar dat is nu met drie seizoenen verlengd.

Formule 1-baas Chase Carey: "We zijn zeer content dat we een overeenkomst hebben gesloten waardoor China in ieder geval nog drie jaar onderdeel blijft uitmaken van de Formule 1-kalender. Dit geweldige land heeft al een overweldigende mate van steun voor onze sport gedemonstreerd en we zijn van mening dat er hier nog veel onbenut potentieel is."

"Daarom is deze contractverlenging ook zo belangrijk voor onze ontwikkelingsstrategie, met name voor dit deel van de wereld. Wij willen de Chinese Grand Prix samen met onze partners nog spectaculairder maken en de Chinese fans dichter bij de Formule 1 brengen. We zijn de gemeente Sjanghai dankbaar voor de onophoudelijke steun."
