Austin niet blij met back-to-back positie met Mexico

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten is niet erg gelukkig met de huidige indeling van de Formule 1-kalender. Promotor Bobby Epstein vindt dat de race op het Circuit of the Americas nabij Austin beter losgekoppeld kan worden van de Mexicaanse Grand Prix.

Op dit moment staan die twee evenementen nog back-to-back geprogrammeerd, maar de twee races vissen te veel in dezelfde vijver. Epstein deelde aan Reuters mede: "De voorlopige kalender voor 2018 is in juni gepubliceerd en ik geloof niet dat daar nog wat aan verandert. Ik denk dat het zo blijft. Het zou voor mij als promotor beter zijn als er meer tijd zit tussen de races in de VS en Mexico. De Mexicaanse Grand Prix samen met Canada en wij dan samen met Brazilië, bijvoorbeeld."

"Er kwamen altijd veel fans uit Mexico op onze Grand Prix af. Die worden nu min of meer gedwongen te kiezen tussen ons evenement en de race in hun eigen land. Als een van de autofabrikanten iets wil doen ter promotie van deze evenementen en ze hebben maar budget voor één actie, dan moeten ze kiezen tussen onze Grands Prix. Als je de races in Mexico en de VS uit elkaar haalt en meer spreidt, dan heb je nog kans dat ze voor beide evenementen het publiek kunnen activeren."

      Natuurlijk heeft hij een punt (en zelfs al een alternatief), alleen had hij bij de vaststelling van de kalender direct aan de bel moeten trekken - of meer betrokken zijn bij vaststelling.
      Het plannen van dit soort races heeft natuurlijk ook te maken met overige activiteiten op het circuit, verwachte weersomstandigheden, feestdagen etc. Maar ik hoop dat e.e.a. in overleg met Liberty (in de toekomst) anders gepland kan worden.

      Hij heeft dit vorig jaar ook al geroepe dus denk ik dat Liberty het vanwege de reiskosten en de logistiek niet wilde combineren met Brazilie.

      Epstein heeft wel een punt maar de F1-teams zullen er niet vrolijk van worden vanwege de logistieke consequenties van wat hij voorstelt.

      Bovendien komt er in de (nabije) toekomst een tweede US GP bij die ook nog een plek op de kalender moet krijgen... Ga er maar aan staan als ‘juf van de planning’.

      Dank voor de herhaling Larry (deel 1 van je reactie) ... en vwb deel 2, ik denk dat het met nog een GP in de USA alleen maar makkelijker word. In de planning zijn er dan direct meer mogelijke logistieke oplossingen mogelijk.

    Heel vreemd, kijk eens naar de afstanden tussen Europese GP's, die zijn vaak kleiner

    als je kijkt hoeveel mensen er in de USA en Mexico wonen moet het toch niet zo moielijk zijn beide circuits vol te krijgen?

    in Texas wonen bijna 28 miljoen mensen, in Mexico city alleen al bijna 9 miljoen

      Dan ga je even voorbij aan het percentage van die bevolking die F1 fan is. In Europa zijn het relatief veel F1 fans, maar in Texas is het slechts een klein gedeelte. De rest houdt toch meer van de lokale raceklasses.

    Dat gebeurt niet meer wanneer de muur er staat.
    Hij heeft wel een punt. Vooral omdat de race in Texas is, pal boven Mexico.
    F1 is ook niet de meest bekeken motorsport van US. De pool van fans is dan ook veel kleiner dan vergeleken met Europa
