F1-team Mercedes genereert omzet van 289 miljoen

De omzet van het Formule 1-team van Mercedes bedroeg in 2016 maar liefst 289 miljoen pond. Dat bericht brengt Autosport. Daimler, het moederbedrijf van Mercedes-Benz, hoefde slechts tien procent daarvan voor zijn rekening te nemen, minder dan 30 miljoen pond. Dat blijkt uit de jaarcijfers van de Duitse renstal.

In 2015 draaide het team van Mercedes nog een omzet van 213,2 miljoen pond. De inkomsten stegen vorig jaar naar 289,4 miljoen pond. De uitgaven gingen ook met 27,9 miljoen pond omhoog, maar Mercedes behaalde wel een operationele winst van 14,3 miljoen pond. Na belastingen kwam het resultaat uit op een verlies van 3,7 miljoen pond, maar dat is wel stukken minder dan het verlies van 22,2 miljoen pond van een jaar eerder.

Wat opvalt is de bescheiden bijdrage van het moederbedrijf Daimler, zeker vergeleken met wat Audi en Porsche de voorbije jaren uitgaven voor hun LMP1-programma's in het WEC. De kanttekening is wel dat de uitgaven voor de motorenafdeling in Brixworth hierbij niet zijn inbegrepen.

De High Power Performance-afdeling van Mercedes draaide vorig jaar een omzet van 140 miljoen pond. Dat is deels afkomstig van klantenteams als Williams, Force India en in 2016 nog Manor, maar de rest betaalde Daimler als investering in research & development.

Het komt er eigenlijk gewoon op neer dat ze inderdaad grote bedragen besteden, maar vooral kostendekkend zijn. Formule 1 leverde Mercedes naast exposure dus zelfs nog wat op. Prima gedaan dus.   Het komt er eigenlijk gewoon op neer dat ze inderdaad grote bedragen besteden, maar vooral kostendekkend zijn. Formule 1 leverde Mercedes naast exposure dus zelfs nog wat op. Prima gedaan dus. Je ziet hier wel aan dat je niet de F1 in moet gaan om rijk te worden, want als je ziet hoeveel erin gaat, is de winst echt miniem. Maar voor Mercedes zijn de titels natuurlijk de beste marketing die ze maar kunnen hebben en onder de streep ook nog gratis.

  Formule 1 is voor Mercedes eigenlijk winstgevend als je kijkt hoeveel exposure ze ervoor terugkrijgen.

Wat nu niet is vermeld is de extra inkomsten door het winnen van zoveel races in 2014/2015.
heeft te maken met een deal met Bernie. Een soort prestatie clausule waarbij het prijzengeld zou worden verdubbeld als een team een x aantal races per seizoen zou winnen. Bernie had waarschijnlijk niet verwacht dat een team het zou lukken zoveel races te winnen.

The key is the constructors' championship bonus (CCB) money and the special payment made to Mercedes following the double 2014 and 2015 title successes, and which kicked in as extra income during the 2016 season.

It stems from the deal that Mercedes struck with Bernie Ecclestone shortly before the start of the V6 turbo era, at a time when the top teams were negotiating for extra income in return for making a long-term commitment to F1.

"What the system rewards is success on track," Wolff added.

"When we discussed the deal we did in 2012 and 2013, we considered whether we wanted to invest the money in growing the business and building capability and resource in order to achieve a higher share of the prize fund.

Mercedes heeft een goed business model en laat zien dat het mogelijk is om break even te draaien of zelf omzet. Kan dus wel in de F1!

Maar om eerst succesvol te worden moet een fabrikant er eerst ook heel veel euro's inpompen om resultaat te boeken.

Omzet wil nog niks zeggen. Het bedrijf waar ik voor werk had vorig jaar een winst van 150 miljoen euro.. Kijk, dat wil wel wat zeggen!! ;)
