Hülkenberg en Renault spreken elkaar tegen over updates

Beschikt het team van Renault dit weekend in Japan over nieuwe onderdelen voor de RS17 of niet? Daar is in de aanloop naar de Grand Prix op Suzuka weinig duidelijkheid over gekomen. Renault-directeur Cyril Abiteboul verkondigde namelijk dat er wel updates zijn, maar coureur Nico Hülkenberg weet van niks.

In de voorbeschouwing op de Japanse Grand Prix zei Abiteboul: "We hebben enkele nieuwe aerodynamische onderdelen, waarmee we hopelijk de performance verbeteren en punten kunnen pakken. Deze updates zijn cruciaal in onze jacht op de vijfde plaats in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs." Hülkenberg spreekt echter tegen dat de wagen onder handen is genomen. "Nee, we hebben niks nieuws hier. Misschien later dit seizoen weer."

De Duitser is niet optimistisch over de kansen van Renault op het circuit van Suzuka. "Voor Maleisië waren we vol vertrouwen dat het circuit van Sepang ons zou liggen en dat we daar competitief zouden zijn, maar we hadden meer moeite en problemen dan verwacht."
