Lauda heeft nog geen verklaring voor langzame Mercedes in Maleisië

Bij het team van Mercedes konden ze na een gebrek aan snelheid op het circuit van Sepang, opgelucht ademhalen nu hun auto op Suzuka wel weer de allersterkste bleek. De regerende constructeurskampioen heeft nog geen verklaring voor het gebrek aan snelheid op de warmere circuits en vraagt zich af hoe andere teams hun zaakjes daar beter op orde hebben. In het koelere Suzuka, waren de Zilverpijlen in ieder geval weer oppermachtig en dat stemde teamvoorzitter Niki Lauda tevreden.

"Heel goed," beschreef Lauda zijn gevoel na de kwalificatie in Japan bij Sky Sports." Na de vorige race waar het resultaat wel in ons voordeel werkte, maar de echte snelheid ontbrak, was het vandaag weer fantastisch. Vrijdag hebben we helaas weinig kunnen rijden door de regen. Vanochtend hadden we gelukkig meteen de snelste auto en Lewis heeft fantastisch werk geleverd. Meer kan ik er niet over zeggen."

"Ik weet niet of we een verklaring hebben voor dit verschil in snelheid ten opzichte van de concurrentie. Het enige wat ik kan zeggen is dat het lijkt alsof het te maken heeft met de temperatuur op het circuit en hier is het een stuk koeler. Blijkbaar werkt het aerodynamisch pakket van onze auto hier wel, maar we moeten uitvinden waarom het op de warmere circuits niet werkt. De concurrentie lukt het daar namelijk wel om de banden optimaal op temperatuur te houden."

Ik had totaal geen moeite met een iets minder presterend Mercedes in Maleisië, daar heb ik ook geen totaal verklaring voor.

Gewoon volgend jaar naar de kortere wielbasis toe gaan, zijn de banden temperatuur problemen ook opgelost.

  Ja hoogstwaarschijnlijk wel. Daarom wordt het ook door Toto een fundamenteel probleem genoemd. Het valt niet op te lossen tijdens het seizoen. Door de te lange wielbasis is de auto automatisch zwaarder in gewicht met als gevolg dat Mercedes minder ruimte heeft om te spelen met de gewichtsbalans en dit heeft weer veel invloed op de balans en de banden.

  En zo is het maar net, het is natuurlijk ook een spelletje.. Je dommer voor doen dan je bent, maar denk dat mercedes nu doet wat het moet doen om het kampioenschap van Ham veilig te stellen en natuurlijk de constucteurs. Word zoals meerdere zeggen volgend jaar een kortere wielbasis denk ik. Gegokt en (niet helemaal natuurlijk) verloren dit jaar kwa chassis.

Het lijkt wel een kermis atractie die Mercedes. Hoeveel snufjes kan dat ding nog aan? Dat ding is toch wel een keer uit ontwikkeld. Er zit nog net geen propeller op.
