Formule 1-banden worden niet voor niets het zwarte goud genoemd. Het rubber is van groot belang voor het gedrag van de auto. De banden vormen het enige contact met het wegdek. Tom Briggs van McLaren legt uit wat er op een Grand Prix-dag zoal met een Formule 1-band van Pirelli gebeurt.
