Burgemeester Sao Paulo: "Pirelli heeft interesse in circuit Interlagos"

Pirelli zou in de markt zijn om het circuit van Interlagos te kopen, het circuit waar de Grand Prix van Brazilië wordt verreden. Het circuit verkeerd in zwaar weer en de toekomst van deze iconische Grand Prix is onzeker.

Maar de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant zou volgens Gazetto dello Sport Interlagos dus willen kopen. Dat beweert burgemeester Joao Doria van Sao Paulo tijdens een bezoek aan Milaan. Doria had een ontmoeting met Pirelli-president Marco Tronchetti Provera en zegt daarover: "Pirelli is sterk verbonden met de Formule 1, maar ook met Brazilië. Dus ik wilde met de president de privatisering van het circuit bespreken. Provera zou het opnemen met de Chinese investeerders zo vertelde hij." Maar er zijn meer gegadigden om Interlagos te kopen zo voegt de burgemeester eraan toe.

Voormalig Formule 1-eigenaar Bernie Ecclestone was door Liberty Media al eens gevraagd om in Brazilië te lobbyen om de Grand Prix voor de Formule 1-kalender te behouden. De voorzitter van Circuit of the America's opperde dat Liberty Media zelf circuits zou moeten kopen, te beginnen met Brazilië.

Pirelli reageerde in een krant uit Sao Paulo op de suggestie van de burgemeester: "Pirelli ondersteunt het initiatief van de burgemeester en zijn inspanningen om investeerders te vinden. Maar Pirelli zal daar op dit moment nog niet direct bij betrokken zijn."

Beetje jammer... verkondigen dat Pirelli het circuit wilt kopen... en daarna lezen dat t niet waar is... beetje jammer...
