Cyril Abiteboul: "Het is essentieel dat wij in Austin punten gaan halen"

Renault-directeur Cyril Abiteboul geeft aan dat een raceweekend zonder fouten essentieel is voor de Franse renstal. De doelstelling van het team is de vijfde plaats in de stand van het constructeurskampioenschap, maar momenteel staat het team op plaats acht.

Doordat het team van Renault in Japan slechts één punt wist te bemachtigen zag het Haas F1 voorbij komen op de ranglijst. Het verschil met plaats nummer vijf waar Williams Racing nu staat is 24 punten. Niet onoverkomelijk maar dan moet er in de laatste vier Grand Prix wel beter gepresteerd worden. Daarvoor heeft Abiteboul een nieuwe coureur tot zijn beschikking: Carlos Sainz kwam over van Toro Rosso en haalde al 48 WK-punten dit jaar.

Laatste twee races waren een grote teleurstelling

Abiteboul: "De Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten is belangrijk voor ons aangezien wij nog steeds in de race zijn voor de vijfde plaats. De teleurstelling is groot dat wij de afgelopen twee races geen punten hebben weten te halen en dat was in het voordeel van onze concurrenten."

In Japan was het pech voor Nico Hülkenberg die op een goede positie reed, maar naar de kant moest omdat de achtervleugel in DRS-stand bleef staan. Dat betekende einde race voor de Duitser. "Wij missen de punten als gevolg van betrouwbaarheid en het is essentieel dat wij een weekend vrij van fouten hebben in Austin. Wij mogen niets laten liggen en wij gaan de laatste vier races in met een andere dynamiek", aldus de Fransman.

Abiteboul sluit af met een hoopvol bericht voor de Renault-fans: "De wagen zal profiteren van upgrades en ook daarom is het essentieel dat wij punten halen."

Uitvallen door een cosmetische ingreep om het inhalen te bevorderen....

Die monteur die op de vuist ging met de achtervleugel vond ik zowel dramatisch als vermakelijk, maar de race moeten staken op deze manier is erg.
Nico was furieus toen hij uitstapte, wat is nou precies het falen geweest? Electronisch of een mechanisch euvel is dat al bekend?

  Volgens mij was de bevestiging van het scharnierpunt van de DRS gescheurd, tenminste dat was wat aangewezen werd in de pitbox. Dus een materiaalprobleem...

  maar waarom dan niet een ander achtervleugel erop, en hopen dat er nog een paar voor je wegvallen.
  voorvleugel hebben ze zo vervangen, achtervleugel zal wel iets langer duren.

  Kraai nieuw in de f1? Weet je hoelang het duurt om een achtervleugel te wisselen? Juist zolang dat je minimaal 10 ronden achter ligt met 16 ronden te gaan heeft het dus geen enkele zin. Want die rondes maak je nooit meer goed...

  nee hoor, volg het spelletje al 44 jaar.
  Ik meen Barichello in een ferrari in nog geen minuut tijd een andere achtervleugel.
  Was toen mischien makkelijker ;)

  @KRAAI Dan win je van mij ik tik net de 24 jaar aan. Mijn 10 ronden is misschien ook overdreven maar 1 minuut gaat echt niet lukken zeker niet met DRS en alles. Daarnaast hoezo zou je een met 3 rondes achterstand op plek 16 aansluiten er gaan er echt in 16 rondes geen 6 uitvallen en tevens moet je als iemand uit valt die rondes nog goed kunnen maken. Nog gaan rijden is compleet nutteloos.

Afgelopen week zijn er al twee Spaanse straaljagers neergestort, dus ik weet niet of het nou wel zo slim van Abiteboul is om meteen zoveel te verwachten van Carlos. Met te veel druk op diens schouders zie ik hem zomaar weer rare dingen doen.
