Marcus Ericsson: "Wil laten zien dat ik plek in F1 verdien"

De toekomst van Marcus Ericsson is nog altijd ongewis. Lang werd aangenomen dat de Zweed bij Sauber gezien zijn connecties met teameigenaar Longbow Finance aardig zeker was van zijn plek, maar niets blijkt minder waar. Ericsson moet zijn plek voor volgend jaar gewoon zelf afdwingen. Dan helpt het niet dat hij dit seizoen nog geen punten heeft gescoord.

"Dat ik drie races voor het einde van het seizoen nog puntloos ben, is teleurstellend", begint Ericsson in gesprek met Formula1.com. "Ik wil punten pakken en het liefst knok ik elk weekend om de punten, maar dit jaar is dat moeilijker dan ooit vanwege de gedateerde Ferrari-krachtbron. De eerste seizoenshelft brak dat ons al op en we wisten dat de tweede helft nog moeizamer zou verlopen. Het is wat het is, we proberen elke race het beste te doen met wat we hebben."

"Feit is dat ik geen contract heb voor volgend seizoen. Tot zover dus ook de verhalen dat Sauber mijn vangnet zou zijn. Ik vecht om een contract voor 2018 af te dwingen. Ik wil laten zien dat ik een plekje in de Formule 1 verdien. Dat is mijn doel. Mijn management praat ondertussen met het team en probeert een overeenkomst af te sluiten. Op dit moment heeft Sauber nog twee vacante stoeltjes. In de Formule 1 kun je pas ergens zeker van zijn zodra het getekend is. Een goede performance is de beste manier om je ambities te onderstrepen."

    toch wel een betalende rijder... zie liever iemand anders debuteren.. wat nieuw bloed.. het is toch altijd even afwachten wat voor domme actie hij doet.. ben hem liever kwijt dan dat hij blijft.

      Precies, hij is een beetje laat om te laten zien dat hij een plek in de F1 verdient, hij rijdt er immers al lang genoeg rond om dit bewezen te kunnen hebben. Weg ermee.

    Ericsson valt in de categorie: Kans gehad te licht bevonden, tijd voor nieuw bloed. Tenzij hij in de laatste 3 races nog punten haalt met de Sauber.
