GP van Mexico sluit een verhuizing naar datum in juni uit

De organisatie van de Mexicaanse Grand Prix voelt er niets voor om het evenement te verplaatsen naar een datum in juni. Bobby Epstein, voorzitter van het Circuit of the Americas, opperde eerder tegenover Reuters dat de race in Mexico City beter gekoppeld kan worden aan de Grand Prix van Canada, aangezien Mexico veel bezoekers bij de race in Austin weg heeft geplukt.

Een wedstrijd in juni is voor Mexico echter geen optie. Alejandro Soberon, organisator van de Mexicaanse Grand Prix, betoogde: "Bobby is een fantastische gozer en ik hou van hem. Hij heeft ook wel een punt dat we de races in Austin en Mexico City beter kunnen spreiden. Maar dan moet hij met zijn Grand Prix maar naar juni, dat zou geweldig zijn voor hem. Het is sowieso logischer om Canada en de Verenigde Staten na elkaar te organiseren dan Canada en Mexico na elkaar."

"Canada en de VS liggen dichter bij elkaar. Ze kunnen het in juni doen en dan pakketten aanbieden om beide races te bezoeken. Ik heb veel respect voor Bobby en wat hij in Austin doet, maar voor ons is een race in juni onmogelijk vanwege het regenseizoen. We zijn blij met onze huidige datum. Eind oktober heerst er een festivalsfeer in de stad. Ik heb veel sympathie voor Bobby, maar wij gaan niet naar juni. Als het zo regenachtig is, kun je de fans geen goede ervaring bieden."

      liberty media wil vooral focussen dus canada dan vs dan mexico zeker het logisitieke verhaal beter kloppend maken dan op en neer te gaan een regen race is prima :)

      Ze zijn er volgens bronnen wel over aan het nadenken om Mexico te verplaatsen maar concrete plannen hebben het daglicht nog niet gezien. Maar @Twslex misschien al wel?

    Mijns inziens grote onzin van COTA. Nog niet zolang geleden werd verteld dat vorig jaar de best bezochte GP USA ooit was. Dit jaar iets minder. Hoeveel toeschouwers moeten ze dan wel hebben? 200k? 300k?
    Lijkt een beetje op de Britse GP. Bomvol maar niet genoeg. Dan zit er ergens iets goed fout.

    Het is toch van de zotte dat een enorm land als Amerika zo weinig bezoekers weet te trekken. Dat krampachtige gedoe om de F1 great te maken te maken begint een beetje zielig te worden. Het straffen van een coureur die een weergaloze actie laat zien helpt ook niet echt mee natuurlijk. Wat mij betreft blijven de bezoekers maar liever thuis zelfs ;

      Die Epstein denkt waarschijnlijk dat hij Einstein is. Is weer die typische Amerikaanse Trump-arrogantie richting de Mexicanen.
      Als die Bobby niet op zijn tellen let, spreken ‘wij’ ons veto uit tegen een tweede GP in de VS. Die zou waarschijnlijk toch op een verfoeid stratencircuit plaatsvinden...

      Als Soberon (‘wij’ mogen Alejandro zeggen) voet bij stuk houdt is hij een fantastische gozer, houden ‘wij’ van hem en verdient hij ‘ons’ respect.

      Tenslotte. Het is m.i. logistiek gezien logischer om wat GP’s betreft Mexico aan Brazilië te koppelen met één in plaats van twee weken er tussen en de VS aan Canada.

    Volgens mij heeft het swingende Braziliaanse publiek de race vorig jaar in de regen als wáánzinnig ervaren. Wij kaaskoppen ook... :-)

    Overigens kan ik me goed vinden in de argumenten van deze Mexicaanse organisator.
