'Zachtere Formule 1-banden van Pirelli broodnodig'

De Formule 1 smacht naar zachtere banden van bandenleverancier Pirelli. Dat vernam Auto Motor und Sport van een teamlid. Van Pirelli is al bekend dat het bezig is met de ontwikkeling van een zachtere compound, een zogenaamde megazachte band.

Het hele assortiment wordt in 2018 sowieso een tandje zachter, is de verwachting. Op die manier zouden teams en coureurs weer meer kunnen variëren met de strategieën en vaker pitstops moeten maken. "De nieuwe compound en zachtere banden zijn broodnodig", aldus het anonieme teamlid.

Er is ook een discussie gaande of Pirelli de bandenkeuze niet gewoon helemaal vrij moet laten. Nu is het nog zo dat de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant voor elke Grand Prix drie compounds nomineert waar de teams dan uit kunnen kiezen. Sommigen vinden dat Pirelli gewoon alle compounds beschikbaar moet stellen.

Dat zou kleine teams in staat stellen om agressievere keuzes te maken en zich daardoor hoger te kwalificeren dan nu mogelijk is. Mario Isola van Pirelli is niet overtuigd. "Met een vrije keuze selecteren de topteams hardere banden waarmee ze alsnog in Q3 terecht komen, waarna ze in de race ook nog eens duidelijk in het voordeel zullen zijn."

Ik snap niet dat er een extra compound nodig is. Verlaag gewoon de zachtheid van alle banden die bestaan, dan behouden ze dezelfde naam maar krijgen ze een andere slijtvastheid en daarmee meer pitstops en strategieën. Met meer compounds wordt het er echt niet duidelijker op.

    Ik snap niet dat er een extra compound nodig is. Verlaag gewoon de zachtheid van alle banden die bestaan, dan behouden ze dezelfde naam maar krijgen ze een andere slijtvastheid en daarmee meer pitstops en strategieën. Met meer compounds wordt het er echt niet duidelijker op.

      Inderdaad. Bovendien maakt nog een compound het alleen maar onduidelijker. Ik zou het veel toffer vinden als er weer meer dan 1 bandenleverancier meedoen.

      @BERI Even beter lezen... De compounds worden volgend jaar over de hele linie al zachter ;) Alleen voor uitzonderlijk lieve banen als monaco en singapore komt er dan een nog zachtere band beschikbaar...

      @ONTKEN: Hoezo maken ze dan meer omzet? het aantal banden dat een team in een weekend krijgt verandert niet dus ook het aantal banden dat ze moeten produceren blijft gelijk...

      Remedy, dat las ik. Maar dan nog begrijp ik het niet. Een extra compound werkt verwarrender dan de compounds nog verder te verzachten. Misschien wel meer dan Pirelli nu van plan is. Nog meer onderscheid tussen de ultra's en de supersofts zou beter zijn. En een geheel vrije keuze aan banden zou helemaal super zijn.

      @BERI waar heb je dat gelezen ben wel nieuwsgierig naar de gedachten daar achter...

      Maar we zullen zien wat het volgend jaar word. Als je het principe snapt dan maakt het volgens mij weinig uit voor de kijker of je nou 3 of 10 verschillende compounds hebt. Zolang het 3 verschillende per weekend zijn verandert er in principe gewoon niets.

      De levensduur van een band is te lang en de verschillen tussen de verschillende banden is te klein , dat is het probleem. Hoe ze dat oplossen is niet belangrijk. Maar dat ze het oplossen. Dat de strategie belangrijker word zou erg mooi zijn.

      @remedy: Ik doelde op jouw opmerking dat ik het beter moest lezen. Dat hoefde niet want ik had het al gelezen dat Pirelli de compounds sowieso zachter maakt. Maar ik begrijp de noodzaak niet voor nieuwe compounds.
      Zorg dat het onderscheid dat er is nog veel groter wordt tussen de bestaande compounds. Dat is wat ik bedoel te zeggen.

      Men wil koste wat kost minstens twee keer per race kunnen wisselen. De vraag is of races daarbij gebaat zijn, daar zou de discussie over moeten gaan. Zelf vind ik 1 keer mooi zat.

    Waarom zo veel compounds. Gewoon 1 of 2 soorten, een zachte welke ongeveer 20 ronden mee gaat en een wat hardere die er ongeveer 40 mee gaat. Al dat moeilijke gedoe met al die compounds. Elk jaar veranderingen in het rubber helpt niet.

      Als de banden op elk circuit evenveel zouden slijten, zou dat kunnen.
      Maar er zit per circuit een groot verschil in de ruwheid van het asfalt, dus dan gaat het niet lukken met maar 2 compounds.

    Pirelli is dit jaar gewoon op safe gegaan met te harde banden. En ze zien nu dat dit wel een stuk zachter kan. De verschillen mogen ook wel groter worden.
