Russell in vrijdagtrainingen in actie voor Force India

Het team van Force India voelt in de laatste twee Grands Prix van dit seizoen een jong talent aan de tand. GP3-kampioen George Russell, onderdeel van het opleidingsprogramma van Mercedes, zal zowel in Brazilië als in Abu Dhabi de eerste vrije training voor zijn rekening nemen namens de Indiase renstal. In Sao Paulo maakt hij zijn debuut tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend en rijdt hij in plaats van Sergio Perez.

Twee weken later op Yas Marina Circuit zal Esteban Ocon de eerste sessie moeten toekijken. Russell: "Ik verheug me erop om in Brazilië en Abu Dhabi in de eerste vrije training in actie te komen voor Force India. 2017 is al een bijzonder jaar voor mij en om dat af te sluiten met twee optredens bij een Grand Prix voelt fantastisch. Ik heb nooit eerder met de VJM10 gereden en het circuit van Interlagos is ook nieuw voor mij, maar ik kijk uit naar de uitdaging en ik ben Force India en Mercedes dankbaar."

Force India-teambaas Vijay Mallya: "We zijn blij om George deze kans te gunnen. Hij is een aanstormend talent en we hebben zijn successen in de GP3 op de voet gevolgd. George heeft al meerdere keren in onze simulator gezeten en werkt goed samen met het team. Nu de vierde plaats in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs veilig is, is het de ideale tijd om naar de toekomst te kijken en Russell te laten debuteren in een vrijdagtraining om zijn potentieel verder te evalueren."

Laat die jongen zich eerst eens bewijzen in de F2, (de stap vanuit de GP3 is te groot), blijft het daar ook nog een beetje competitief, daar loopt het helaas niet over van talent, dat is best jammer.

  Jaja Kvyat ging wel meteen naar de F1 vanuit de GP3 maar inderdaad laat hem maar eerst rijpen in de F2.

  Valtteri Bottas, eigenlijk indirect ook, was in de F3 geen uitblinker, maar won wel de GP van Macau, vond het toen al een rijder, die te veel gehypet werd.
