Horner: "Liberty moet poot stijf houden in motorendiscussie"

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner roept Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media op om zich niks aan te trekken van het gezeur van de motorleveranciers over de uitgangspunten voor de motorformule voor 2021 en daarna. Het mediabedrijf presenteerde vorige week de plannen voor de Formule 1-motoren van de toekomst, waarna het geklaag kon beginnen.

Mercedes, Renault en Ferrari voelden zich gepasseerd in de discussie over de krachtbronnen voor de periode na 2020 en uitten hun ongenoegen. Honda hield zich afzijdig. Van buiten de Formule 1 klonken echter positievere geluiden. Aston Martin ziet perspectief en ook Cosworth en Ilmor zien voldoende aanknopingspunten in de ideeën van Liberty Media.

De houding van de in de Formule 1 actieve autofabrikanten hoort dan ook vooral bij het politieke spel. Mercedes, Renault, Ferrari en ook Honda zullen Liberty Media de komende maanden en jaren nog vaak zat proberen van hun stuk te brengen. Horner hoopt maar dat het mediabedrijf daartegen bestand is, maar zijn eerste indrukken zijn in elk geval goed.

Aan Motorsport-Total.com liet hij weten: "Bij Ferrari en Mercedes is het soms lastig om vast te stellen wie wie is en welke belangen ze dienen. Ik hoop dat Liberty Media de moed heeft om de poot stijf te houden in deze hele discussie, maar ik denk van wel. Ze hebben goede specialisten ingehuurd en een duidelijke analyse gemaakt. Achter alle gepresenteerde plannen zat een heldere logica. Ze laten geen enkel fundamenteel probleem ongemoeid en daar komt een beter product voor de fans uit."

Als het aan de fans zou liggen kwam er een V12. Nee gewoon vasthouden aan die stofzuiger omdat we groen moeten blijven. De moraalridders.

Wat kost het ontwikkelen van een motor 300+ miljoen? Snap wel dat huidige fabrikanten nieuwe ontwikkelingskosten zo veel mogelijk willen voorkomen, want dat was ook een van de tegen argumenten. Klantenteams dragen niet bij aan deze kosten neem ik aan?

  De huidige fabrikanten willen niets, die vinden het wel prima zo.
  Zij hebben nu namelijk de touwtjes in handen, en dat geven ze niet graag op.

  Motor regels zijn altijd aan verandering onderhevig in de F1, motor fabrikanten moeten dan ook niet zo zeuren en gewoon de beste motor proberen te maken binnen de op dat moment vastgestelde regels. Als ze dat niet willen dan moeten ze de sport verlaten.

  PS @PRINSMP, natuurlijk dragen klanten teams bij aan de kosten. Ze betalen per jaar een godsvermogen voor een F1 motor deal.

waarom komt de Naam van Aston martin iedere keer terug als fabrikant van F1 motoren Aston martin maakt zelf geen motor voor hun auto,s dus 300 miljoen voor F1 gaan ze echt niet doen.
