Marc Surer: "Startrijen met drie auto's onacceptabel"

Oud-coureur Marc Surer vindt het belachelijk dat Liberty Media overweegt om de invulling van de startopstelling te wijzigen. De traditionele grid met rijen van twee is volgens de nieuwe Formule 1-eigenaar niet meer van deze tijd.

Het mediabedrijf heeft liever een startopstelling waarbij rijen van twee en rijen van drie elkaar afwisselen. Dat zou betekenen dat de eerste startrij uit twee auto's zou bestaan, de tweede startrij uit drie auto's, de derde startrij weer uit twee auto's en ga zo maar door.

Een slecht plan, zo oordeelt Surer tegenover het Duitse Sky. "Voor mij zijn startrijen met drie wagens naast elkaar vanuit veiligheidsoogpunt totaal onacceptabel. Als er drie auto's naast elkaar op de eerste bocht afstormen, kan dat alleen maar verkeerd aflopen."

"Het is op dit moment al dringen geblazen in de eerste bocht. Aan de ene kant introduceert de Formule 1 volgend jaar de 'halo' om de veiligheid te verbeteren, aan de andere kant bedenken ze dan zoiets. Het is ongelooflijk…"

Het argument dat het in het verleden wel mogelijk was om drie auto's naast elkaar te laten starten is aan Surer niet besteed. "Vroeger waren de remzones voor de wagen ook langer, waardoor de rijders meer ruimte hadden om nog uit te wijken. Dan kan zo'n regeling wel werken."

  Ja, natuurlijk, maar wat hij hier allemaal zegt had iedereen wel kunnen bedenken. Als men nu al 50 meter onderweg zijn rijden ze al 3 dik.

Laat die startgrid gewoon zoals het is. De starts is het spannendste onderdeel van de gehele race.

Sommige circuits hebben de breedte voor 3 auto's... Ik vind het niet nodig... Maar bij MotoGP heeft t daardoor toch wat extra flair om mee te gaan naar de pers... dus in dat oogpunt snap ik het, maar F1 is geen Oval racing of Motogp...

  Motoren zijn ook wat kleiner daar is het geen probleem. In de F1 moeten ze het gewoon zo laten niet nog meer kunstmatige rommel voor meer spektakel.

Het is ook gewoon een idioot en gevaarlijk plan. Als er een auto stil valt op de eerste rijen, dan wordt het levensgevaarlijk en kan niemand een kant meer op om uit te wijken.

  Liberty Media wil bij de start meer spektakel en crashes zien.
  Wat heb je er aan als na de eerste bocht al vier of vijf auto’s uitgevallen zijn. Dan rijden er in het gunstigste geval nog maar vijftien of zestien de race verder uit.
  
  Meer spektakel gedacht vanuit de sport is prima, gaat het om zoveel mogelijk crashes dan snap je m.i. de sport, of nog specifieker, de F1 niet helemaal.
