Steiner: "Bestaande teams belangrijker dan nieuwe teams"

Haas F1-teambaas Günther Steiner is van mening dat Liberty Media minder energie moet steken in het vinden van nieuwe Formule 1-teams. Het mediabedrijf kan beter alle aandacht spenderen aan het creëren van voorwaarden waaronder de huidige renstallen kunnen floreren.

Steiner: "Liberty moet eerst de problemen van de bestaande teams oplossen om ervoor te zorgen dat er niemand wegvalt. Dat is veel belangrijker dan het aantrekken van nieuwe teams. Er moet een solide financieel platform komen voor de bestaande teams."

Daar heeft de teambaas van Haas F1 zeker een punt. De Amerikaanse renstal is zelf de jongste van de tien in de Formule 1 actieve teams. Haas F1 debuteerde in 2016 op het hoogste niveau. Doordat Manor na vorig seizoen wegviel bestaat de grid momenteel uit twintig auto's.

      Taures... We leven in een wereld waarin alleen Amerika niet gelooft in aardopwarming... Bedrijven als Hugo Boss vanochtend, moeten er allemaal aan geloven en ze komen erg ongeloofwaardig over als je "fosiele brandstofvreters" steund... Hoe jammer dit ook is. Wel vind ik het bijzonder dat we niet meer chinese bedrijven als hoofdsponsor zien... Terwijl die zich graag willen verkopen aan europese markten.

      Hier wordt een beetje een valse discussie gevoerd. Zijn eigenlijke boodschap luidt dat ie niet op nog meer concurrentie vanuit de onderkant zit te wachten.

      Maar de hoofdvraag is wat F1 wil zijn - en daar hoort ook de vraag bij hoe groot het startveld mag zijn. Het zou geschiedsvervalsing zijn te doen alsof de huidige situatie de standaard is. Historisch gezien is dat gemiddeld 24 met uitschieters naar 26. In deze rijke tijd beleven de fans dus magere jaren. Het is het failliet van Ecclestones beleid, dat in feite geen beleid was maar een realiteit waarin de wal het schip heeft doen keren.

      Dat een team het soms niet meer kan bolwerken hoeft eigenlijk geen probleem te zijn - mits er maar voldoende kandidaten langs de zijlijn staan om het gat op te vangen. Dit was in de jaren 70 en 80 bijna altijd het geval, toen geld nog niet zo'n overheersende rol speelde.

      Voorts, het probleem dat geld neigt te stromen naar waar zich al het meeste geld bevindt, lijkt zich juist sterker voor te doen naar mate het algemene budgettair niveau omhoog gaat. Kortom, nog een extra reden om te pleiten voor algehele budgetverlaging.

    Met een Budget plafond denk ik persoonlijk dat Penske en Andretti zich willen wagen aan de F1... Misschien ook wel Holden Racing... Maar wie wil er nu 150 miljoen betalen om achteraan mee te rijden met Sauber en met name te vechten tegen Marcus Ericcson...

    Jammer dat nu weer een team aansluit bij de eigenbelangclub.
    Kan er nu niet eens 1 over zijn eigen schaduw stappen en het belang ven de f1 voor ogen heeft.
    Zelfde als met de motoren, budgetten en tvgelden verdeling.

    Ik snap ook niks van die 6 cilindermotor, ik vind eigenlijk de V8 al een mager compromis.
    En dan lees ik het geneuzel over die 20 fossiele brandstof slurpers en hoor ik die Formule E naaimachines over het circuit zigzaggen.
    Die trouwens ook de hele wereld over worden gevlogen met enorme fossiele brandstof slurpende vliegtuigen.
    Over geloofwaardigheid gesproken.
    Met die paar race auto's doen we het milieu niet zoveel kwaad
    En dan hebben we ook nog het budget plafond.
    Daar komen ze nooit uit en is niet te controleren.
    Dus kun je je deze dure hobby niet veroorloven? wegwezen!!
    Aan de formule 1 moet je niet te veel willen veranderen tenminste niet in de DNA.
    Ga anders lekker indycar kijken of rijden als alles gelijk moet of een andere klasse.

    Snap Steiner wel vanuit zijn positie maar om de F1 toekomstbestendig te maken kan het geen of-of zijn maar moet het een en-en zijn!

    Liberty moet er zijn voor bestaande en nieuwe teams. Als ze dat nu nog niet aankunnen, moeten ze meer mankracht met knowhow inhuren, dat betaalt zich altijd terug.
