FIA neemt de veiligheid in Brazilië onder de loep

De World Motor Sport Council van de internationale autosportbond FIA zal bij de volgende bijeenkomst aandacht besteden aan de veiligheid tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend in Brazilië. In Sao Paulo werden medewerkers van diverse Formule 1-teams, Pirelli en de federatie zelf aangevallen.

Gewapende overvallers hielden busjes met Formule 1-personeel staande en probeerden de teamleden te beroven van hun waardevolle bezittingen. Twee medewerkers van Mercedes kregen zelfs een pistool tegen het hoofd gedrukt. Verre van ideale werkomstandigheden dus.

Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media schoof de verantwoordelijkheid voor de veiligheid af op de organisatie van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. Dat is de FIA toch wat te mager. Daarom is deze kwestie op de agenda gezet voor de volgende vergadering van de WMSC, op 6 december aanstaande.

De FIA meldt in een verklaring: "In de geest van samenwerking zal de WMSC met de Formule 1 bespreken wat er gedaan kan worden om een meer constante en efficiënte veiligheidsprocedure voor alle evenementen op de kalender in het leven te roepen en toe te passen."

"De bevindingen daarvan zullen we delen met organisatoren van andere raceklasses om de positieve impact op de autosport als geheel te maximaliseren. Veiligheid is een gezamenlijke verantwoordelijkheid en de FIA gaat nauw samenwerken met de Formule 1 en alle andere stakeholders om een veilige omgeving voor het personeel en de bezoekers te creëren."

Hoezo? Fc Utrecht hoeft toch ook niet de veiligheid te garanderen bij een voetbalwedstrijd? Helaas is de maatschappij zo dat er dagelijks conflicten zijn. De lokale autoriteiten zoals politie dienen daar zorg voor te dragen. Daarmee kunnen sportinstanties niet belast worden.

  Dus de maatschappij moet boeten voor sportevenementen die beter beschermd moeten worden? De wereld op zijn kop. Zeker als het een sport betreft die winst maakt zoals Liberty. Liberty is de werkgever dus Liberty zal samen met de instanties voor de veiligheid moeten zorgen. Niet de FIA.

  Mee eens.
  Het had Liberty gesierd als ze anders hadden gereageerd ipv de handen wassen in onschuld.
  Daarentegen is de FIA nu wakker geschud en gaat ingrijpen. Wel beetje laat van FIA want hoe vaak zijn daar al F1-personeelsleden beroofd?

  Zoals mijn reactie eerder, vind ik het vreemd dat de FIA zich hier in mengt. Het zou in mijn optiek juist Liberty moeten zijn.
