Toerisme Abu Dhabi in de lift door de Formule 1-race

De toeristische sector in Abu Dhabi spint garen bij de jaarlijkse Grand Prix op Yas Marina Circuit. Dat blijkt uit een artikel van de plaatselijke krant The National. Duizenden Formule 1-fans van over de hele wereld reizen elk jaar naar het oliestaatje af om de seizoensfinale bij te wonen.

Eenmaal thuisgekomen verspreiden ze ronkende verhalen over de gastvrijheid en de heerlijke omstandigheden in Abu Dhabi, waardoor anderen uit hun omgeving bij het bepalen van een vakantiebestemming vaak ook Abu Dhabi overwegen. Het is precies het beoogde effect van de Grand Prix. En dan maakt het voor de organisatie niet uit dat de titelstrijd reeds beslist is.

Al Tareq Al Ameri, directeur van Yas Marina Circuit: "We hebben beide scenario's al meegemaakt; dat het tot en met de laatste ronde van de laatste race spannend bleef en dat het kampioenschap al voor onze race vergeven was. De respons was in beide gevallen ongeveer hetzelfde. Het heeft dan ook verder nauwelijks tot geen invloed op ons evenement."

Nick McElwee, directeur sales en marketing, voegt toe: "Onze bezoekers krijgen niet alleen alle actie op de baan. Daarnaast hebben we een heel programma met optredens van internationale topartiesten samengesteld, plus ander entertainment, een gratis dag voor kinderen en gemakkelijke toegang tot Yas Island met Ferrari World Abu Dhabi en Yas WaterWorld."

Voor de hotelbranche is de jaarlijkse Formule 1-race ook van groot belang. Mark Griffiths van Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi, het hotel dat deels over het circuit loopt, noemt de Grand Prix een aanwinst waar Abu Dhabi aan vast moet houden. Stephen Kamat van Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group geeft aan dat de bezettingsgraad van hun twee hotels in Abu Dhabi tijdens het Formule 1-weekend 100 procent is.

  Vorig jaar heb ik heerlijke biertjes aan het circuit gedronken toen ik naar het programma aan het kijken was. Zonnebrilletje op, korte broek aan. Het was tenslotte 32gr.
  Perfecte locatie om een weekje door te brengen hoor. Goed eten en voldoende alcohol gehad.

  Beetje raar om te zeggen dit, UAE is een Westers land als je daar eenmaal geweest bent. Makkelijk om achter de toetsenbord dit te roepen.

Vorig jaar was er een aanbieding van de telegraaf. 5 dagen Abu Dhabi, weekendkaarten vlucht en hotel voor nog geen 900 euro. Ik heb nog steeds spijt dat ik niet gegaan ben.

Ik kan dit alleen maar beämen.
Super vriendelijke mensen, lekker eten, top sfeer.
Het zit'm zelfs in details als propere toiletten. Op menig europees circuit staan slechts smerige tijdelijke toiletten die de stortvloet aan bezoekers niet aankunnen.
In Abu Dhabi kan je er van de vloer eten.
Verder is het weer er altijd mooi en kan je er wel gewoon alcohol verkrijgen hoor...zolang het achter gesloten deuren wordt geserveerd en genuttigd. "Achter gesloten deuren" is gelukkig wel zeer ruim interpreteerbaar

Ik ga zeker nog terug, al is de kans groot dat we wel weer zullen overnachten in Dubai ipv Abu Dhabi zelf

Het leuke is juist dat het in elke land weer anders is, de 1 vind het wat en de ander niet, prima toch. Het gaat over Formule 1 niets anders.
