Verplaatst Brazilië de Grand Prix naar Florianopolis?

Liberty Media en de organisatie van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix overwegen om de Formule 1-race in Brazilië te verplaatsen van Sao Paulo naar Florianopolis. Dat bericht brengen Folha de S.Paulo en GloboEsporte.com. Het contract van Interlagos met de Formule 1 loopt nog tot en met 2020, daarna zou een andere Braziliaanse stad aan de beurt zijn.

Die beslissing is mede ingegeven door de aanhoudende veiligheidsproblemen in Sao Paulo. Rondom de Grand Prix van Brazilië was het vorige week weer veelvuldig raak met (pogingen tot) gewapende overvallen op Formule 1-personeel. De internationale autosportbond FIA gaat de zaak begin december nog behandelen, maar achter de schermen is al een lobby gaande om het evenement naar Florianopolis te verhuizen.

Florianopolis is in Formule 1-kringen vooral bekend als de stad waar Felipe Massa altijd zijn kartrace voor het goede doel organiseerde. Er zijn al wat verkennende gesprekken tussen de lokale politiek en de organisatie van de Grand Prix geweest. De wens zou bestaan voor een stratenrace die onder meer over de Avenida Beira-Mar Norte zou voeren, met de Hercilio Luz-brug als achtergrond. Er zijn echter nog geen officiële plannen ingediend bij de gemeente.

In Sao Paulo zijn ze ondertussen niet bang om de Grand Prix te verliezen. Burgemeester Joao Doria: "Hoewel er een nieuwe eigenaar komt, zal Interlagos hoe dan ook het contract met de Formule 1 tot en met 2020 honoreren. Onze wens is dat de Formule 1 ook in 2021, in 2022 en ver daarna naar Sao Paulo zal blijven komen. Het plan is om de Grand Prix zeker nog drie of vier decennia hier te houden. Met alle respect voor Florianopolis of welke andere Braziliaanse stad dan ook; Sao Paulo is net zo belangrijk voor de Formule 1 als de Formule 1 is voor deze stad."

Denk dat dit bericht gewoon wat druk is op de gehele organisatie van de GP op Interlagos en verder weinig om het lijf heeft. Er moet nu echt wat aan die onveiligheid gedaan worden anders zijn ze dus gewoon weg daar. Maar wie weet wat er nog gaat gebeuren daar met de interesse voor F1 als je over 5 jaar nog steeds geen Braziliaanse topcoureur meer hebben gehad. Ik vond het nu al behoorlijk leeg op Interlagos vorig weekend. We zullen zien, ik ben niet zo van de straatraces en Interlagos vind ik gewoon een superleuk baantje. Helemaal als het regent.

Deze wijziging zie ik niet gebeuren, is net zo'n vaag plan als we al veel vaker gezien hebben. Veiligheid verbeteren verbeteren bij de toegangswegen en gewoon op Interlagos blijven.

Volgend jaar in Sao Paulo gewoon het leger op straat rondom het circuit. En beveiligde retourritten tussen de hotels, het circuit en het vliegveld. Zo niet: geen Grand Prix meer.
Zo simpel kan het zijn.

En zeg niet dat dit niet kan: in België kan het immers ook. Je kijkt even vreemd op, maar als je je realiseert dat zo'n pantserwagen er voor jouw eigen veiligheid staat, dan is er eigenlijk niet zo veel aan de hand.

Waarom niet in de hoofdstad van Brazilie?
Is goed voor de bekendheid want veel mensen weten geeneens hoe die hoofdstad heet en waar deze ligt.

Overigens weten vele ook niet wat de hoofdstad is van Australië en Canada maar dat terzijde.
