'Tommy Hilfiger nieuwe kledingsponsor van Mercedes'

Het team van Mercedes vangt het vertrek van kledingsponsor Hugo Boss op met de komst van Tommy Hilfiger. Dat bericht brengt Motorsport-Total.com. Het nieuws is nog niet officieel bevestigd door de Duitse renstal, maar een aankondiging zou aanstaande zijn.

Puma blijft aan Mercedes verbonden als leverancier van alle racekleding. Voor alle 'casual outfits' doet de regerend wereldkampioen een beroep op Tommy Hilfiger. Beide partijen zijn geen directe concurrenten van elkaar, waardoor een regeling met twee kledingpartners mogelijk is.

Tommy Hilfiger komt in de plaats van Hugo Boss. Dat Duitse kledingmerk betreedt de Formule E als sponsor en partner. Het aanbod van Tommy Hilfiger zou zo aantrekkelijk zijn dat Mercedes het niet eens heel erg vindt dat Hugo Boss zijn heil in de elektrische autosport zoekt.

      Misstappen: nog vreemder: Hilfiger was jarenlang ook sponsor van Ferrari. Maar of dat Pre-Stroll sr. tijdperk was weet ik njiet meer.

      Tuurlijk. Pappa Stroll is natuurlijk een opportunist van het zuiverste water. Als Lance volgend jaar niet al te slecht rijdt, dan kan Mercedes er flink aan verdienen om 'm naast Lewis neer te zetten. Ocon mag dan veel meer talent hebben (Ocon is een racer. Stroll is een bestuurder), maar dit is zoals die dingen gaan.

      Pappa Stroll is niet de eigenaar van Hilfiger. Pappa haalde merken als Hilfiger naar Canada en met het geld wat hij daar van verdiende heeft hij samen met een ander weer in kleding geïnvesteerd.

    Naast het sponsorgeld zijn die merken ook leuk voor een beetje F1-glamour.
    Zou wel leuk zijn om bijvoorbeeld zoiets te hebben als: Red Bull powered by Dolce & Gabbana. Of Haas Armani Racing, STR Prada, Sauber Gucci Team enz.
