Brackley onthaalt kampioen Hamilton met erehaag

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton keerde gisteren voor het eerst sinds hij zijn vierde wereldtitel veiligstelde terug op de werkvloer. De Brit ging eerst langs bij de motorenafdeling in Brixworth en werd vervolgens bij de fabriek in Brackley getrakteerd op een erehaag. Alle teamleden verzamelden zich voor de deur om de kampioen een warm ontvangst te bezorgen.

Hamilton: "Dit was een emotionele dag. Ik had dit totaal niet verwacht en ik wil iedereen bedanken voor het warme welkom dat ze mij gegeven hebben. Dit zal ik nooit vergeten. Bij aankomst stond iedereen bij de oprit richting de ingang om me te onthalen, ik stond echt versteld. Het is een ongelooflijk jaar geweest en samen hebben we een ongelooflijke reis afgelegd."

"Ik heb veel respect en waardering voor het werk dat deze mensen verzetten. Ik loop inmiddels al een tijdje rond in de Formule 1, maar de werkethiek in Brixworth en Brackley inspireert me echt. Elke keer dat ik langskom, zie ik iedereen 100 procent geven en dat moedigt mij weer aan om het beste uit mezelf naar boven te halen. Ik ben iedereen van het team dankbaar dat ze me helpen om mijn dromen waar te maken, zonder hen was dit niet mogelijk geweest."

      Lang niet altijd hoor. Als Max in 2018 WK wordt krijgt hij echt geen erehaag bij Mercedees.

    Topper die Hamilton. Je hoeft niet iedere coureur persoonlijk even leuk te vinden. Maar ik ken hem dan ook niet. En wat heel erg voor hem spreekt is dat hij wil racen en geen enkele teammaat schuwt. Hij zou de komst van Max toejuichen, 100%. Beste auto of niet, gewoon een van de grootsten van de sport Formule 1.

      Hamilton is zeker een topper, maar dat ze het tegen iedereen durven op te nemen als teamgenoot roepen ze allemaal en moet je derhalve met een korreltje zout nemen.

      @Flyingfokker Vettel in ieder geval niet. Heeft maar één jaar een redelijke teamgenoot gehad en werd meteen verslagen en vluchtte naar een ander team.

      @FlyingFokker Hamilton heeft bijna alleen maar goede teammaten gehad die vrij mochten racen, kunnen we niet van Vettel en Alonso zeggen. Hamilton is bang voor geen enkele andere coureur.

    Ron Dennis zei ooit zoiets als: ''When you win for the first time everybody loves you and cheer for you but when you keep winning for years love turn into hate''.

    Hamilton is in mijn ogen de meest complete coureur op de grid dus verdient hij de titel, ik zou het echter niet erg vinden als Mercedes een jaartje géén titels wint! De Formule 1 heeft andere winnaars nodig.

    Ik vind het mooi om dit stukje inzicht te krijgen in de achtergrond en passie van zo'n team. Het is een hele prestatie om met zoveel mensen het maximale eruit te halen. Het Mercedes team doet dat op dit moment gewoon heel goed en wint dan ook terecht.
