Carlos Sainz: "Erg jammer om op deze manier uit te vallen"

Voor Carlos Sainz eindigde het seizoen in Abu Dhabi met een uitvalbeurt. Veel kon de Spanjaard daar niet aan doen: Renault maakte een fout bij de pitstop en stuurde Sainz met een loszittend voorwiel weer de baan op. De Spanjaard had al snel door dat het mis was en parkeerde zijn bolide vlak na de uitgang van de pits in het gras.

In gesprek met Jack Plooij van Ziggo Sport blikt Sainz terug op zijn race: "Erg jammer dat we op deze manier uit moeten vallen. Natuurlijk is dit balen, maar waar mensen werken worden fouten gemaakt. Gelukkig hebben we de zesde plaats in het kampioenschap alsnog weten te pakken dankzij Nico Hülkenberg, tijd voor een feestje vanavond."

      Gewoon ouderwets domme kracht op zetten, werkte met de DRS vleugel ook prima.

      Sja, Abiteboul heeft het wel vaker verkondigd, het is lastig om goede en ervaren 'engineers' aan te trekken. :)

      It's the Sainz way, zelfs met 3 wielen denkt hij nog verder te kunnen rijden. :)

      Bij het insturen in het viaduct bleek het wiel los te zitten. Carlos moest wel doorrijden anders had hij de pitsstraat geblokkeerd (op een heel gevaarlijke plek).

      Ja, wat een sukkel. In het tunneltje vloog hij al bijna in de muur. Dan weet je toch dat je niet meer verder kunt rijden? Maar nee, vol gas erop. De idioot had door die kamikaze-actie zomaar een andere coureur uit de race kunnen rijden. Hij verdient daarvoor strafpunten op zijn licentie!

      Wat had hij dan moeten doen, hem moeten stilzetten in het midden van de pits zodat niemand meer door kon? Hij mag trouwens niet teruggeduwd worden van daar, dan is het onmiddellijk diskwalificatie en monteurs mogen niet naar dat stukje lopen ivm de veiligheid, hij kon alleen maar doorrijden.

      Snap dat in die tunnel hem stilzetten in de tunnel geen optie was.
      Maar ik vond dat ie aardig hard de tunnel uitkwam, daar had hij zeker een lager tempo aan kunnen houden, volgens mij zat er ook niemand direct na hem in de pit(correct me if i'm wrong).

      Gas op die lolly, anders verplaats je het gewicht naar de voorkant en loopt het wiel er zo af?

      Wat hij anders had kunnen doen? Gewoon heel rustig die tunnel uitrijden en daarna direct linksaf het gras op. Maar nee, meneer Sainz ging als een kamikaze tekeer....

    Hij wist in de tunnel al dat het foute boel was. In mijn ogen had hij dus best met een lager tempo de baan af kunnen sturen.

      Ik hoop vooral op een beest van een motor. Dan kan Max Carlos ook in 2018 weer rijles geven. Trouwens, als Renault een beest van een auto zou hebben, dan is het Hülkenberg die daar vooral van profiteert, niet die Spaanse 'wannabee topcoureur'.
