Mark Webber in bestuur voor de Australische Grand Prix

Mark Webber is samen met Kimberley Brown met onmiddellijke ingang benoemd tot bestuurslid voor de Australian Grand Prix Corporation, de organisator van de Australische Grand Prix op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne. De aanstelling is voor de komende drie jaar. Alan Oxley doet juist een stapje terug na vijftien jaar dienst voor de organisatie.

Het nieuws is bevestigd door de staat Victoria, waar Melbourne onder valt. John Eren, minister van Toerisme en Grote Evenementen: "De Australian Grand Prix Corporation vertolkt een belangrijke rol bij het toerisme voor onze staat. Mark Webber en Kimberley Brown, beiden leiders op hun vakgebied, zullen ongetwijfeld een nieuwe dimensie aan het bestuur toevoegen en ervoor zorgen dat onze evenementen verder blijven groeien."

Australian Grand Prix Corporation-voorzitter John Harnden: "Alan Oxley heeft een opmerkelijke bijdrage geleverd en een integrale rol gespeeld in de successen die we hebben bereikt. We zijn hem dankbaar voor zijn toewijding en onuitputtelijke steun. Mark Webber en Kimberley Brown zijn geweldige individuen en zullen een frisse wind door het bestuur laten waaien."

Webber reed 215 Grands Prix voor teams als Minardi, Jaguar, Williams en Red Bull Racing en won negen maal. Hij hield de Formule 1 na 2013 voor gezien en vervolgde zijn loopbaan in het World Endurance Championship, waarin hij in 2015 de titel in de LMP1-klasse won.
